Looks rad! Man I need one of these! It’s up on the builder on their website.

www.balaguerguitars.com

I remember Joe posted a tease back on April 1st and we all went nuts about it so glad he made it a real thing.

I dig it - very Ibanez Xiphos
Yeah there's some Xiphos/RR sexiness happening for sure. I really dig it!

The guitars in the builder are Korean-made, right?

Not sure. I think their Standard series is made in China but the build guitars are semi custom and the site says "Our semi-custom guitars are built using high-quality wood that we source and supply. Since each instrument is built by a team of three trained luthiers, we take advantage of traditional techniques by hand but also use CNC machines to make accurate and consistent cuts."

I actually dig it. Like Ibanez meets Dime. Love to see one in “dimeslime” finish.

Sweet!

I recently grabbed an Archetype. Phenomenal craftsmanship, fit/finish, tone & playability. After a year and a half of debating, I'm really glad I finally picked one up. This guitar was made in Korea & I put the craftsmanship of this guitar right up there with the Suhr, Mayones, Ibanez Prestige I own/owned. The fretwork is probably the best I've had on a guitar.

Unless something has changed, yes they are Korean made.

I have a semi-custom Dark Matter Anomaly (Balaguer's headless brand) and it is Korean made....and it's also every bit as good a guitar as my Hamer USA's. I haven't played any of my other axes since getting it a year ago

Fuck me, I need to stop being an asshole about ordering a Korean axe and try one.

Can anyone describe the different necks for me? I like a C shape that’s on the slimmer side. Think Musicman Axis, PRS thin

    I was right there with ya...but man they apparently have great QC & paired up with some great luthiers who take pride in what they're doing. I have only tried a MM Axis a couple times in my local shop and if memory serves me the Balaguer C isn't quite that thin. It's definitely not to chunky and slimmer than the Suhr modern I had which was way to chunky for my taste.

Best I can do man :aww:

Sounds like a comfy C will do. Next sale they do, I’m ordering this new axe. Already spec’d it out just under 2k.

The semi-customs are built in SK but it’s not world music. It’s a smaller shop about about 4 or 5 master luthiers and a handful of shop guitar builders. Very fine attention to detail. All guitars being shipped to a customer in the US come through the shop in PA and are inspected by Joe Balaguer. No worries about getting a dud!

The comfy C is pretty similar to a Suhr modern. Super comfy and fast. But not. Ibanez wizard thin.

The non pointy headstock is gross tbh. Pointy guitars need pointy headstocks imo
The online builder is a ton of fun though.

I really want to grab one of their singlecuts, I really love their shape and the fact you can spec it out exactly how you want it. I just can't get over paying $1500-1900 for a Korean made guitar. I've played so many terribly made and dead sounding Korean guitars that I'd be so cheesed off if the Balaguer showed up like that. They do have the coolest looking singlecuts around though
