New Cab Day: Marshall 1960AX w/Greenbacks

Just got this last night. Only got to play it for about 15-20 minutes though, because I have the flu and feel like shit. :no: :aww:

I tried it with my Ninja V and I was really impressed with it. Tons of crunch and a nice smooth tone. I was afraid the Greenbacks might not sound too good in low tunings but they definitely sound cool. Lead tone is nice and smooth too, really sounds good with the 5150. Can't wait to play it some more and mess with my settings. I didn't really change anything except raised the volume a little bit. I'll try to post a clip or something later this week.

GB's are awesome speakers. The more I hear them up against other speakers, the more I prefer them.
 
I've been using a 1960ax as my main cab for a few years and absolutely love it. Greenies are my favorite speakers
 
If i go back to a head and cab rig, that would be the cab id use.

Sounds great not too heavy and looks the tits under a Marshall JMP :rock:
 
Greenbacks are the best sounding speakers, hands down. Any amp 100 watts or lower gets them. Anything over gets V30's.
 
I have greenbacks in my favorite cab too. The cab is an old Carvin "Boogie wannabe" from the 80's. Driven by my 5150 for my home amp.

Since you have a lot of experience with the Engl Blackmore, how do you think that amp would sound through a Marshall 1960 with GBs??

I'm not sure man. If I had to guess I would say it would probably sound real good. I was actually just watching a video on YouTube of some guy playing a Blackmore through a Greenback loaded cab.

Just got to test out the cab a bit more since I'm feeling a bit better this morning. Really liking the tone so far. I've been playing V30 loaded cabs for the greater part of the last 3-4 years and these Greenbacks are definitely a different beast. They don't sound as in your face or upfront as V30's, but they sound a lot more rich and "sweeter" so far. Not quite as aggressive as the V30's, but still heavy enough for me. I love the crunch that these speakers have and they sound really smooth and fluid for leads. So far I'm actually liking these better than V30's. :shocked:
 
Thats a killer set up.....reminds me of when i scored my setup like that last year.
 
I don't care what the amp is. Greenbacks or alnico blues are the only Celestions that ever sounded "right" to me.

I think a lot of people are like you and just stick with V30s without any second thought to it, just because they're the "standard" for whatever reason. Plenty of speakers sound wildly different, and in a good way, though.

Having multiple speakers is also a good way to keep from getting bored of an amp you like.
