1st thing I thought of when seeing this was the people on this board who were going to complain about the price...or worse yet, the "I'd rather get a ________ for $___ and put a _____ on it" guys comparing it to a usable guitar.

Guys.... these are special collectors items for uber-rich lawyer types, not guitars for players (don't we all already know that?), and the price needs to stay consistent with similar pieces. Furthermore....add up the total of all the guitars selling and what Eddie gets out of the deal...and he probably spends more than that on a weekend getaway a few times per year. In other words, it's not a big "money grab" for a guy in his league ($$$).

I see it as a cool offering for what my friends refer to as 'blues doctors'... the very wealthy super-fans who will enjoy the cool personal collectible traits of this type of stuff. Even if I had the $$, I'd never invest it in such a thing either....but I do enjoy seeing these sorts of releases, especially the 'personally played Eruption' idea here. Don't wait for your heroes to die to enjoy their sunset years...this crap is entertaining.

I’m in their target audience... I’ll pass.

All this for a guitar that was put together for as little cash outlay as possible. Fucking ridiculous.

Lots of guys on CL and FB will build one for you for a tiny fraction of what these will go for, and they will be every bit as accurate or period-correct. No thanks.

Nah, Lynn still has some of that old ash, or at least he did back when I interviewed him about it for the old Van-Halen.com - now if he's changed his story since then okay. We got to be pretty acquainted - this was when he was really neck-deep in the Speedster Amps thing.

He said the one Ed picked out was dinged by Wayne for having a knot in it, so it was in the 2nds pile, since everything they were doing in '75 was clear coated. But he said it was average weight.

The real guitar is about 7.5 lbs.

From that article:
After starting out with his '58 Fender Strat, Eddie decided he wanted a heavier piece of wood for the body, so he bought a Strat-shaped body for $50 and a neck for $80.
And if you ask Lynn Ellsworth about that day at Boogie Bodies, he'll tell you that Ed picked a cheap body from the bottom of a reject stack behind a sawdust bin, and that it weighed about 12 pounds. But you have to take whatever Lynn tells you with a grain of salt.

Also, notice they kept the wrong angle of the forearm contour from the Frankenstein replicas.

The replicas (both Frank and '78) use a less-steep angle. Once you see it, you cannot un-see it.

Funny. That's why you can't truly take Lynn at 100% of his word. Every story out of him experiences a change in details depending on what decade you have a chat with him. Years ago, there was a local guitar slinger in my town that put together a Boogie Bodies partscaster. He wanted the cheapest parts Lynn was selling at the time. The body he chose was heavier than hell and was laying on a floor pile of bodies, and Lynn told him that it came from the same ash log as Ed's black stripe. Again, you just can't trust Lynn's sales pitch.

Yeah, he offered to build me a body "from that same block" but the story didn't add up once I started digging a little.

I think Lynn probably has some old wood that he brought from California, but I'd be shocked if he knows what wood that body came from. He was a cabinet/furniture guy who knew how to run the band saw. Dave Schecter was a young guy in there as well. His old replacement bodies where from the same pattern as the old pre-pro San Dimas bodies.

doctor dentist or lawyer?

anyway
who gives a fuck

what really sucks is that al and ed are sitting on a TON of sick unreleased audio from all of the 6 packs albums and I bet they got crazy videos as well,
we will have to wait until wolfie gets interested in releasing this stuff.
as fans we are not even on the radar which blows chunks

My Frankenstrate blows them away. For about a grand. I’m trying to upload pics.
Site won’t let me.
‘Files too BIG!!’ :aww:

I have about $1000 into mine and this no-name, eBay neck I got for $100 is awesome.

$25k for a guitar he built for maybe a few hundred. Outstanding.
“Period correct case candy...” Does it come w/ an ounce of coke and some Schlitz? Asking for a friend.

Pretty much my thoughts.

I'm contemplating picking up one of the charvel artist van halen series guitars for $2k. I've always liked how they played - even more than Suhr strats when I compared them back to back.

There's a guy on eBay who mods the EVH Striped Series Frankies to look pretty close to the original, even comes with cigarette burns on the headstock, though the "EVH" stamp is still on it. I think they go for $1600ish, but am not sure if that's with the buyer or seller supplying the guitar before reconditioning/relicing.

LOL! If they throw in a pair of Dave's fur boots from the period, I might be in. :D

You know the crazy thing, once again, is how bad the timing is on something like this. If this would have been revealed in the 90s' or even the past 10 years while they were touring, then people would have been flipping out.

It is getting to the point where people don't even know who EVH is. I feel like some of these guys creating these ideas are out of the loop on what is going on with music. Have they seen the beards, craft beers, and tight jeans? :D

Me, too!! :D

Especially if they threw in these boots, too... and the girl at the 1:55 mark, but only if she can still make that face... ;)

Dang Ed..what are you going to do for the 50th anniversary??

Anxiously awaiting the 40th anniversary Summer Nights Steinberger that Ed plays Summer Nights on prior to shipping them out..

Dave never sang anything the same twice which made him terrible at lip syncing.
