Suhr,Friedman,Bogner didnt do work for Ed until the 90's.Jose was Eds main amp guy from the 70's to very early 90's Eds main plexi went though many changes before they(suhr,friedman,bogner etc)seen the amp.Jose did add a master volume to Eds plexi's toward the end of the 78 tour(distortion/overdrive unit was used for the recording of VH1,explained to me by Jose numerous times). The master volume was removed(late 80s) and the hole in the back of the amp was then plugged with a screw. Ed had many plexi's back then.If some wants to believe the amp techs listed here then be my guest.As for having Eds hands,yes with alot of gain.Look at the amps Ed designed,Peavey 5150 and the Fender EVH all designed with a ton of gain.Ed like's gain........
Jose = known liar
John Suhr = known expert with impeccable character who claims solder joints were original with the exception of one part.

I think you put a bit too much stock in what Jose told you vs the visual proof offered by others. Original solder is original solder...doesn't matter whether Suhr looked under the hood in '78, '88, '98, or last night.

OH OK, You can trust Suhr,please......... :no:
What possible motivation could he have to lie about what he saw...seriously??? Why do you refuse to recognize the possibility that Jose may have mislead you?

yes,,,,and Dave Friedman, and Bob Bradshaw, who had that amp in his shop as early as 85' and was partners with Suhr, and Mike Soldano who was in van nuys in the late 80's, and all said the same thing, and all worked on that head well before the van wheelden overhall...and Rudy, his tech thru all those early years.

Reinhold says the same thing, as does Steve Fryette. AS DOES THE NOW-SOBER EVH!!

The amp was stock, except for a little bright-cap finagling. Run 2 Echoplexes and an MXR EQ into the front of a variac'd and dimed '68 12000 and it roars.

Heck, it roars without that stuff...but especially with it.

Wasn't Suhr's job in the military inspecting solder joints? i think you can trust him. Let it go already nitro, it's stock.

This right here. :rock:

The preamp in those EP-s will act as a mild boost and tone fattener. Put two of those in-line between the guitar and amp and there's your "dirt box", even without the MXR EQ. People are building that very circuit into OD pedals. Ritchie Blackmore used to run a tape recorder between his guitar and Marshalls because of the preamp in it. When you factor in EVH, his hands, guitar, pickups, effects chain with 2 Echoplexes in-line, variac-ed / bright capped Marshall, speakers, etc., I'd say your in like Flynn. :)

I read it, and splurged the money to see him live one more time. I saw them nearly 30 years ago on the Diver Down tour, and twice with Sammy. Eddie, Alex, and Wolfgang were tight and will not disappoint, if you are a classic Van Halen fan. Dave was....., well he's just Dave, and that's all I will say. Romeo Delight was my favorite song of the night. It's only money, I make it every day, and I don't want to have regrets like the time I passed on a FREE ticket to see SRV. :doh:
