I bought a Schecter with a JB and friend has a charvel with a JB in it. I think they sound great.
And how does does being hand wound make it better/different? What sort of tonal characteristics does that impart?ericsabbath":3q8yylp8 said:Death by Uberschall":3q8yylp8 said:I don't think SD changed the formula.psychodave":3q8yylp8 said:I like the old JB's. they used to be handwound till late 80's
usually labeled as JBJ and wound by hand by the custom shop manager maricela juarez (yeah, a woman)
The Tone is in the fingers man!! I guess it doesn't actually apply to the person playing the guitar. Could be the person that wound the pickupsrupe":3gckwqbn said:And how does does being hand wound make it better/different? Unless you are talking about a scatter wound vintage design (which the JB is not), I think its all a bunch of corksniffer BS.

I used to have a new JB (non-magically wound) in an old Charvel Model Series that was made of basswood and it sounded awesome. And now that I recall, I liked that guitar's tone better than the EB Axis (stock DiMarzios) I had at the time.

I'm not a dimarzio guy, but I get what you mean
most duncan neck models are scooped and too low output, except the sh6n and sh8n that are the extreme opposite
the '59 was the worst and most sterile neck pickup I ever had, including most stock pups
I like the jb, screamin demon, custom, custom custom
distortion is fine, but gets muddy too easily

Thanks. Do you think it would still work with the maple top?
I think so, I didn't think the Axis was too bright. I have never really been a fan of DiMarzio humbuckers, they all seem too compressed, I really like their singles though.

Yep!!! (Ernie Ball EVH) BIG IMPROVEMENT over the muddy bridge pickup in the stock EBMM EVH - in my opinion...
