My goodness. I am old and my eyes ain't what they used to be... that looks like they left a strip of bare wood that neither got paint or clear coat on the neck. Is that what you mean? I see why you are describing as cracks under the binding as well. I'd call those unacceptable.

For me, that's unacceptable on a brand new guitar and I'd immediately return it, if you can't do the transition between the two finishes smoother than that you shouldn't offer the satin neck.

Is it just raw / exposed neck wood on that little strip?

I would agree, unacceptable. Seems like a big error on a pretty basic facet of guitar building.

Looks like something Chibson would do. Unacceptable.

Is this the same guitar? I can't zoom in as close as you did in your photo on my phone but the seam looks better to me. Also, in the first of your pictures the satin finish side looks pretty sloppy / way too much finish to me, maybe I'm just picky, but if I'm buying a brand new guitar ordered from there factory and paying full price I'm expecting it to be dialed in

Seen this before. The clear coat goes past the paint to keep the paint down(ie,from peeling up). Then the satin on the neck takes over from there. Betcha they are all that way.

Yeah, my guess is that it's not a crack but the seam between the finishes. But that's a guess without really feeling it and seeing it in person.

That's the way they all are. Its the clear over the color than a touch of clear over the bare wood and then the oiled neck. I don't view this as a QC issue, it's just the nature of the beast. The only thing it really tells you is how thick the finish truly is. They do lay it on quite a bit.

I you like the way the guitar plays and feels, I would keep it.
