Don't even get me started on the modded Marshall thing.....lol....I can't believe something we did in England back in the mid 80's out of sheer necessity has become such a trendy sensation here in the US in the 2000's. Still doesn't beat the number of Plexi clones you see on ebay though !
Guys over here were modding amps back then too....also out of necessity.

or bought boogies :D

What I meant to say, is that the amps are so different, they shouldn't be compared. Sorry.

Well...let's not throw out the baby with the bath water... :)

We all have to compare our amps to others. Sometimes they're similar in a number of regards, and sometimes they aren't. Making comparisons helps people understand what makes our products different. Speaking publicly about it can be tricky enough, even when specifically/directly asked to draw comparisons; I usually save that for a phone conversation so it directly and privately addresses the person who asked the question, and so I can more easily avoid misinterpretation. In any case, avoiding "strong language" when comparing the amps is wise, for two reasons: one you already realize, and the second is that it makes sense to speak as objectively as possible to let people draw their own conclusions, since you'd rather present the most honest representation of your product as possible. It saves everyone headaches in the long run. You can actually only describe differences anyway, not "how much more my amp kicks ass" (which actually makes no sense). Saying "it's in a different league" usually implies "it's far better" (even if you actually only meant to say "it's a different amp") and it can be easily inferred you meant to say that based on the context of the paragraph (whether you implied it or not) because of the fact it's "strong language" and we usually use it that way.

We're inevitably going to sometimes use more positive-sounding terms to describe the differences in our amps when comparing to others; we can't completely avoid it because we're biased. But even in those cases it's a good idea to remind someone that you're speaking from your own perspective only, while still trying to speak as objectively as possible and keep things in a proper context. I'd bet fewer feathers would've been ruffled had you left out the term "in a different league" (which wasn't necessary to describe anything about the differences in your amp), and mentioned how your amp was aimed at a different sort of sound without painting it with that brush of "more gain and is more articulate" (which seems like a description Rig Talk members would generally consider favorable about an amp). As a very general example (not implying any similarites to Landry or Carol-Ann amps at all): I wouldn't want a JTM-45 to sound higher gain and more articulate; it does what it does because of the balance it has; as such it's aimed at a different player than a JCM800 is. Someone who loves JTM-45 amps might hate a JCM800, and vice versa; there are clearly markets for both amps and neither is "better" overall. I'm sure you realize that. Now look at your original post, and see how it's missing something along those lines. If you can find a way of saying something like that while making a comparison of your product to another, it would be hard to fault you for posting that information/opinion publicly.

In 1985 in England a basic 2 channel Boogie would have set up back around $2500 to $3000 in 1985 money, I don't know what that would equate to in todays money, but by compaison you could pick up a used early 70's JMP for around $100. THere were a lot more Parks in the Northern area I came from actually, but they are essentially the same.
Because there was no internet back then we didn't really know much about what the guys were doing in the US to Marshalls.
To get schematics you had to call up Manufacturers and ask them for a photocopy. They would literally decide if you should have one or not based on if you seemed technically copetent or not. In the case of Vox, they made me send copies of my qualifications before they would sell me spares...lol...how times have changed.

I don't believe it was malicious. Comparisons are just better left to a third party.

I apologize to Carrol Ann. I think Carol Ann's are very cool amps, and I shouldn't have gone there.

It's all good bro, no worries. You have great chops, thats the only thing you need to communicate the quality of your work effectively.

Just made myself lol, and thought I'd share :D

Ok....so the Carol-lAnn builder is fairly reserved...........

Imagine the reply from Mark Cameron, if the comparison were to his amps...It would have probably started with...."You rotten MotherF^&*er...you F&*#ing piece of sh%^"...and gotten progressively uglier :D

The stream of profanity would have been truly epic

......................and there was my morning chuckle :D

Not reserved....lol oh boy hardly, just not ignorant. People f*** up and write stuff and then get called out on it. It happens. I've done it.

I have hung out a couple times with Bill Landry and I don't think for a second that he was being malicious with that statement.
He comes off as a pretty decent guy IMO. We all say things that come out wrong from time to time.

I'm lucky to consider Bill Landry a friend and I'm absolutely positive he meant no disrespect. Bill is as decent a human as you'll ever come across. There are videos of Bill playing through a Carol Ann and I know he really likes those amps. There's a video of Bill playing through my Egnater as well. Myself and other buddy's have brought Carol Ann's, Bogners, Splawns, Egnaters, VHT's, Peavey's, and countless others over to Bill's place. Not once has he ever said anything negative about any of them and always sounded amazing playing through them. I don't own a Carol Ann or a Landry but really love both. I get a chance to hear Bill's amps often as he's right down the road from me and the Carol Ann I played through was amazing! I'd be thrilled to have either but they are simply out of my budget right now. I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone mentioned in the previous threads but I would be shocked if Bill meant any disrespect. He might not have articulated his thoughts as well as he'd liked and stated that in his follow up post. His clarification stated that he meant they were two different types of amps. Knowing Bill, I have to believe that's exactly what he meant.

Bill and I are fine. He reached out to me and we ended up having a good laugh over it. It was just a case of typical words on a website not conveying the same message they would in person. I told him for punishment he has to do a clkip of the Triptik :)
