NEW LINE OF LEE JACKSON / METALTRONIX

as long as it sounds good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I have a mix of his mod and a SLO in my JCM800 2204. It sounds pretty nice, but you gotta EQ the thing way different from a normal Marshall. Gilbert, Takasaki, old Wylde, Lynch, Laiho, Latvala and a few other guys have used his stuff in the past. Some of his amps sound like total dogshit, but others can sound pretty good.

So what is this? There doesn't seem to be a description on the site. Is it a digitally controlled tube amp? If so, I'm going to have to go with the "like 256 individual preamps" being a total load of bat guano. I can use just about any amp under the sun with MORE than 256 combinations of settings, but it's still the same damn amp.

A friend of mind forwarded this to me. Apparently he his trying to go cheaper than boutique pricing. I remember Stryper use to have there amps modded by him. I never liked there sound, but I have heard the Ampegs he designed and they sound pretty good.

Totally Agree with this. I had a Lee Jackson Modded Marshall that sound just OK but a guy in a rival band had the same mod in his and his sounded amazing. We both bought our amps from a guy who was endorsed by Lee at that time and even he said the same thing (he sold 9 amps and mine was the last otherwise I would have picked the other dudes amp lol!! That guy got lots of offers on that head everytime he played! )

I played a METALTRONIX in the early-mid 90's and it sucked.
Maybe, like Ralphie said, it was a bad one... or had issues?
Hope the new ones sound great!
Lee's a good guy from all I've heard.

Keith

I've had an Ampeg head designed by Lee, a Metaltronix, and a couple pedals he made. Never liked any of them.

So true. Having owned 6 LJ modded Marshalls, and Metaltronix amps, and played many other people's, they can be like night and day. When they're good, they're good, and when they're bad...

That website looks like a big infomercial. AS SEEN ON TV!

Yes, but did you notice they're "Built To Blast!" :D

The M-1000 was THE WORST sounding amp I've ever played in my entire life.

It's a Fuzzy, buzzy and lifeless POS.

:aww:

I agree 100% the M1000 is a buzzy shitbox. I had a XLS that sounded great. Just needed a little more gain and it would of been the peferct 80's tone.

I owned a Metaltronix M-1000 in the '90s and remember it to be horrible. I wonder about the wisdom of trying to market that brand again.

I have an M1000 and a Lee jackson 2204. They are good sounding hard rock amps if dialed in right. If they are dialed in wrong they sound pretty bad. They do crunchy hard rock in your face tones well, not liquid high gain stuff.

I had a M-1000 back when they first came out and I remember that it was a struggle. There were days that it seemed great, then some that seemed like it sucked. On the good days you could make it sound exactly like the first Ozzy album with Zack Wylde. After about two months it started arcing between the power tubes during rehearsal (looked like a monster movie), then the power transformer blew. I promptly returned it and got an ADA mp1 rig which rocked at the time. On the other hand I have a 50 watt marshall that was modded by Lee that sounds great. Great marshall sound and you can make it sound exactly like Racer X's first album sound.
