Yea I’m really digging this mic. I bought a stereo pair off a buddy for super cheap, and I’m loving it so far. The width and clarity on this is really nice, as im not usually a fan of mics like this on guitars, but just mixed in a bit is nice. Borderline too dark to me but sounds thick and huge.

Enjoy! At the 45 seconds mark when all 4 guitars come in sounds ridiculously huge, check it out!

The 184 is a glorious mic on cabs, in my opinion. I think of it as as delivering a quite faithful reproduction of the speaker’s sound to the ear, and I find it tends to sound pretty great close to the centre and backed up about three finger-widths - I often use it placed like that to audition different speakers and cabs as it’s much more listenable and full range than a 57 in that position.
There are actually a surprising amount of metal producers using the 184 on cabs and I think often the story matches yours - get them for OH and try them for guitars on a whim one day only to be very pleasantly surprised. That’s how it was for me too.

Here’s a good one for you to try if you can: the Neumann KMS105. It’s a supercardioid handheld vocal condenser but is a) the best snare top mic ever and b) sounds killer on guitar cabs, almost like a dynamic and KM184 blended together in one mic. So good

Really like 184’s on guitar cabs too. There’s a couple of pencil condensers that work similarly well, much prefer them to LDC’s (which you tend to see people talk about more with cab micing for some reason)
