Just screwing around with a clip of it. My usual 8-string, SD-1, 2204, and G12M cab.

Sounds ok. Definitely not as bright/present/in-your-face as the SM57. This is older "black" e609 rather than the "silver" one that's current production; supposedly the silver one is brighter. Wonder if I would prefer that one.

I like the e906 which is similar but has some built in selectable filtering (I usually just have it flat). On its own it can do a good job capturing certain speakers where the sm57 can be a little hard to place like the g12t-75. It’s also great on Fenders w/Jensens.

It can be a bit of work to find the right spots but the e906 and 57 can mix well together too.

Yeah it seems to not care about placement. I shifted the mic and made another clip but can't tell the difference between them haha. I just hung it over the top of the cab down to one of the top speakers

I had both versions. Not a fan. Audix I5 was my fav for in your face dynamics. Refined 57

These mics are more for live playing, as you said it’s easy to drape it over the cabinet, especially if you have a combo.

For recording, it’s definitely easier to place but sounds better mixed with a 57 I’ve found than on its own. It’s less focused than the 57 but fills out the spectrum nicely when mixed.

Yeah, I think for me goofing around recording clips and whatever in my basement, the e609 is growing on me. I listened back on a better system and liked it.

But it does not "pop" or "jump out" in the way an SM57 recording does, so I think that if you have a mix of instruments and need the guitar out front, you may still want the old SM57.

I really like the 609 for capturing a sound that pretty closely captures a room sound or what my ear hears.
As mentioned, it's not fussy with position - seems to have a wide cardioid pattern.

Metallic riffing: Of Wolf and Man. Some clams while I try to remember how this song goes
