Police arrested a man on suspicion of kidnapping after they say he forced a dinner companion into his car after an argument, then pulled a gun on her.
Bradley John King, 42, drove the woman from Newport Beach to Anaheim, where she escaped and called police, Newport Beach police said Friday.
King, who’s from North Kingston, R.I., was being held Friday in the Orange County jail.
Police said the incident started about 6 p.m. Thursday, when the two argued over dinner and drinks in Newport Beach.
About 7:15 that night, police said, King forced the woman into his vehicle near 28th Street and Balboa Boulevard and, when she tried to get out, held her and pointed a gun at her head.
After the woman escaped in Anaheim and called police, officers there called the Newport Beach Police Department about 9:30 p.m.
Early Friday, police said, Newport officers found King in Anaheim, and officers from both cities pulled his car over and arrested him.
Newport police said King was booked on a kidnapping charge and could also face charges of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful gun possession.
