Congrats dude! The one I once played was amazing!

Nope, that's me...I play the blues everytime I see that blue 2150

Awesome, man.

Didn't Steve Lukather run one of them puppies?

Yeah, Luke used the original non-SE version in 1991-92 and used this from about 1993 to 1997 when he switched to the Rivera Bonehead. He brought the SE back out again from about 2002 to about 2012, when he went over to Bogner. Most of the other high profile guys only used it for a bit in the early-mid 90s but Luke stuck with it for a long time.

He knows a good thing when he hears it.

Thanks Dave.

Yeah, I think it´s fair to assume that it was dialed in for Luke even if his name isn´t on it, especially the SE. Bradshaw once said that the original OD100 head was made for Mike Landau, and the SE sounds like such a Luke thing. More gain, more bass, a little bit scooped, a little bit of nice fizz up top... it´s totally what he was going for at the time.

I seem to remember Luke running an SE with the original ch2 for a long time. I did switch over to a straight SE across all channels, but I can remember when he did that. It's only 2 components that differ. The SE ch2 has less gain and less highs.

Wasn´t it a ch 2 with the SE voicing but with a bit more gain than stock? But I guess we´re splitting hairs at that point. I was a bit surprised how different those few components make the two versions, though.

I learned this from Bruno "The 3+ doctor" who sold and modded the preamps in Europe. He had a lot of contact with Bradshaw and Suhr. It was called "The Luke mod". If I remember correctly, it was just a cap and resistor, because I got the original components with the 3+SE preamp that I bought from him. Before that, I had one of Neal Schons original 3+ preamps.

There was also a Henderson and Landau mod. I can't remember what the Henderson mod was, but the Landau mod was basically turning ch3 into a second ch2.

Yup. After the original "classic Toto" sound (Toto, Hydra, Turn Back, Toto IV), from Isolation onwards it was more-scooped.

EDIT:
Just listening to some old Toto right now, and it seems the more-scooped dirty lead started creeping in on Turn Back.

I seem to recall that the Henderson mod was supposed to be a hotter clean channel, like the boosted mode on the OD100 heads, and two channel 3s. Never saw one with that configuration, though.

This is Racko-rific

But, don't skimp out now, you really need a Sonic Maximizer to tie this all together ;)

Yeah, you're probably right. The OD100SH had that gained up clean channel, so it makes sense that that was on his 3+ preamp.
