'Wanted to step up my long range game.. Stumbled across a Ruger SFAR. AR10 Caliber in an AR15 format. Light as hell not like a real AR10..
I bought it and then found people talking about the 16" 308 isn't that reliable.. Well fuck..
But this is a 20" in 6.5 Creedmore.. 'Fuckin laser. Shoots flat as fuck and has been 100% with 120 rounds thru it so far.. WAY less recoil compared to a 308..

Have the Burris Fullfield V. 6x24 with a 50mm Objective.. Got the Beefy Burris Rings too.. Got it dialed the 1st time, but my Mechanical Zero was fucked.. 111 clicks left or right and I had 4 clicks left.. LOL Good thing the Rings come with offset Bushings, so I was able to redial within a few MOA..

I had to toss the Milspec Charging Handle. It was unusable to me.. I also got a 45 Degree Safety that is super easy to operate. I had the Magpul Stock and Grip already along with the Grip Inserts. If you've never tried them, go for it. The Weapon clings to your hand with them..

This is the Red Blind at my Cousin's property.. So far the farthest Steel Target is 424 yards, but I have another Plate on the way that we'll put out to 500.. Good times when you're up there clangin steel in the country..

Nice rifel! I don't care for the milspec charging handles either. Looks like you got a serious upgrade. The magpul furniture is nice stuff. I have their grip on my AK, it sure beats the old popsicle stick. Burris makes a nice scope and those are some sweet rings as well. 6.5 creedmore, badass bro!

Gonna have to tag @Floyd Eye as I bet he'll appreciate that as well.

That's bad ass brother. I wouldn't worry too much about internet randos telling you it's unreliable. People told me BCA was junk too and the AR-15 I set up for long range ( to me, I have it sighted in at 250 yards) is a 18" fluted .223 Wylde BCA upper on a PSA lower I built. Tons of rounds through it with zero complaints.

I don't buy out of the box ARs. My plan is to build an actual long range AR-10. I've only ever done AR-15s though so before I start figuring out the difference between DPMS and whatever and buying parts I need to get a few tools I'll need that don't cross over. I was thinking .308 but it's not set in stone.

Nice looking rifle. What stock you got on there? Nice. Love the skeletonized trigger. One nice thing about those AR's is even stoning down the stock trigger group results in a really nice clean break for very cheap.

Stock is Magpul. I forget which one.

I put Hiperfire EDTs in most of them, but this one is a drop in cartridge trigger. James Madison Tactical.

The PSA EPT trigger is as nice a mil spec trigger as you’re gonna find for $35. No slop, smooth. Breaks about 5lbs. My Hiperfires all break right at 3. The JMT breaks around 2.

I don’t fully trust cartridge triggers but this is not a “fighting” rifle so….

Sprinco Blue spring and H2 buffer, Microbest BCG with Sprinco springs and BCM bolt. Magpul furniture. I forget who makes the bi-pod but it’s not an expensive one.

Scope is a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x40

* Edited to correct the BCG, which is a BCA side charger with a BCM bolt.

The Aero lowers are some of the nicest looking lowers in the business! That would be pretty much my first choice if I was building an AR! Aimpoints are awesome. I have the comp ML3 on my ak, it's been a great unit. I change the battery every year just as a matter of habit. I think I went two years once without doing so and it was actually dead that time.

They supposedly last 3 years in the PRO. I change all batteries once a year like you though.

One cool thing about the Aero lower is the bolt catch/release is threaded and instead of driving a roll pin in up against the lower and taking a chance of scratching it, you just thread in a set screw. There’s also a set screw for the rear takedown pin spring so installing or changing the end plate is much easier.

The Gas Block is adjustable with 4 settings. The stock setting is 2 and that's where it's been with no issues. People talked about cycling problems with the 16" 308, but it seems they have it figured out with this one..

I've only shot 2 types of ammo so far. Hornady 140gr ELD Match. Those are pretty Bullets. Then the Hornady 129gr Interlock American Whitetail. Those are pretty cheap. I've bought more of those and have been dialing my DOPE with them.

Ammo Seek.. I found a place in Texas that has the best price on them, all in with shipping $26 a box. There is cheaper but I want to be dialed with something more quality than target ammo.

That's a huge Sun Shade!

I bought an Adapter that holds your Cellphone over the Eyepiece of a Spotting Scope, so next weekend we'll play with that. I'll post any videos I get here..

You ever get into metallic reloading? That would be the way to dial in a round specifically tailored for your needs and save a few bucks doing it. There is a learning curve but it's not bad, it's mostly case prep that consumes a lot of your time on the bench. Anyways, just a thought. Some guys really get into it, I mostly did it so I could shoot rarer ammo types for more affordable. I did have some good guidance on the way in and eventually was casting my own bullets (for pistols mostly but I did cast some sweet 45-70 slugs).

I sighted that one in with 77gr. Hornady match, but the difference in POI with Lake City 62 gr. 855 is minimal.

I don't worry much about it with the ones equipped with dots. Lake City 855 or 193.

I did zero the Wilson Combat with match rounds though just to see if it lived up to their .5 MOA guarantee. It does.

Man.. Years ago, I had a Dillon Square D and was reloading 40 S&W and 44 Mag.. https://www.dillonprecision.com/s000083
I sold it when times were tough.
I don't know if I want to go down that Rabbit Hole again..
I do watch Gavin on Ultimate Reloader tho.. He does all the precision stuff.. He has a killer Range on his Compound.
The next Rifle I get with be a 26"+ Precision Bolt Action.. But not for a while. I'm having a blast with the Ruger right now..

77gr is pricey! I always preferred 62gr over 55gr only because it's heavier! But like you said, the POI is mostly negligible at the distances my 556 is setup for.

Sounds like you already got an idea of what's involved. Maybe when you get your precision bolt action. Less work involved than dealing with autoloaders that have a tendency to burn through ammo plus you can just use fire formed cases in the bolt for max accuracy vs probably needing to full length size for an autoloader. Truthfully I haven't set up my humble single stage Lee in some years, just busy with other things, but I need to load up some 9mm one of these days when it cools off. I have everything I need to do it but the time and motivation. I still got an mc project that needs finished. A buddy even sent me some steel pistol targets that I haven't even gotten around to setting up. Home improvements plus guitar and trumpet consume all my time right now.

I'd love to have a heavy barreled bolt action Savage 7mm mag with a big scope but truthfully have no legitimate use for it and my tastes, and wallet especially, dictate strict utilitarianism these days. I've never shot a deer beyond about 70 yards and my "range" out back is only about 100 yards max so it'd kind of be a waste. I do have an ancient Eddystone P13 receiver I've had in a drawer forever that I could build anything up to a .460 weatherby magnum on, I'd love a 7mm STW tbh, but the price of the build outweighs the point of doing it and it probably wouldn't be as accurate as a nice Savage right off the shelf....
