New Suhr PT100

I'll caveat my above response.

Although the clip sounds great (helped significantly by Pete's playing), there is absolutely nothing new or unique about those tones.

I already have a number of amps (i.e., Wizards, Matchless, etc.) that can do the exact same tones just as well if not better. Just sayin'.

I don't think anyone makes me GAS more than Pete Thorn. Looking forward to your studio demo(...?).

While that clip does sound substantially different from the original it's hard to tell how much of it was the strat. I'd love to hear more with a super strat or lp type guitar.

You'll notice the Strat has a humbucker - making it a "super" Strat (although any guitar Pete gets his hands on becomes a super)!

I mean something more akin to a Jackson or Ibanez. There's too much strat in that clip to tell how it really sounds and/or how much different than the original PT.

looks pretty darn cool to me and wouldn't mind having one around

What does that mean? Is a Strat not an electric guitar?

I know what he means. The tone is very Strat like, bright and jangly. We need a LP to hear how the amp sounds with darker buckers.

I dig it. Something different. There are enough plexi look alikes already.

i agree with you.

Ok, so-

The new PT you see here is an exact duplicate of my Frankenstein modded PT road amp, with all the tweaks and mods that we've made over the last 4 years or so.
-revoiced channels that sound INCREDIBLE. I'll put it up against any channel switcher out there- it is unreal, tonally
-different filtering (more like an old plexi)
- new output transformer (once again, plexi)
-brand new design MOSFET boost circuit, works on ch1 2 and 3, stays tight while adding gain/harmonics/grind, feels and sounds totally organic and awesome
-MIDI switching with a brand new foot switch
-new matching deep 2-12" cab- sounds huge, tight, and ballsy, rivals a greenback loaded 4-12" in volume and punch. Loaded with Celestion H magnet Creambacks (75w)

The reason that we did this amp- my road amp sounded so damn good, we thought, why not! Why do tubes up, different layout, etc etc. it can change the tone when you do all that, then it'd be possibly back to the drawing board.

When you play it- you'll see. It is badass. The best American clean, Brit dirt amp on the market. IMHO

Thanks Pete - I got a PT100 & it is awesome. Adding the midi switching is great & can't wait to hear the new amp

I re listened, and I think it does sound less JCM800y, and more like a Plexi!

Sure. But if the clip was with a Les Paul, then we would be saying there's too much Les Paul in the clip to tell how it really sounds. The tone would be very Les Paul like, dark and mid-heavy. We would then need a Strat to hear how the amp sounds with bright and jangly single coils.......

;)

Im pretty suhr Pete has all the guitars we would ever need to hear in a demo for this amp. In time hopefully all will be revealed.

Hi guys,

I'll do a full demo at my studio very soon, like next week. Going to take 2 days off after namm to just chill and then I'll get to work, so you can hear more of the amp. I'll be sure to use a variety of guitars.

Thanks for your interest! I'll check this thread for any questions you might have, etc.

Cool, I'm glad it comes across- it really has that magic plexi/super lead chewy feel and tone thing!i don't know how else to describe it but you guys know what I mean. It's all a balancing act- the tone of the preamp, filtering, output transformer, the killer new boost, etc...

Definitely chewy!

Does that chimeyness come mostly from the MOSFET added to the mix, or the Plexi type filtering??

how does it compare to the XTC blue channel?

The PT -100 is at the top of my wish list. Sadly, at $4,400, that's where it'll be for quite some time. Maybe I can find a used one in a couple years. The old CAA version is fine with me.

Keep in mind, matching cab for that price. It's not just the head.

Well, yeah that's a bit better. A good 2x12 cab is $600-900. I do like 2x12 cabs better than 4x12's. A new PT-100 would be the ultimate amp for me. That much money is a problem at the moment. I'm trying to find a good deal on an Electradyne. It's as close as I can get to a PT-100 for less than $1,000.
