I was just workin a deal on the 1rst version at a local store..maybe i need to rethink and wait and see what the price is gonna be just for the new head..

Ya the cab smokes! It's deep, but not as tall as say, a Bogner OS 2-12". We worked hard to get the dimensions right and the speaker choice that matched. It's a beautiful cab, sounds huge and is covered in that killer carbon fiber tolex. It's not at all boomy, just sounds big and tight (but not too tight) and has lots of punch.

Hi Pete - any idea if just the cab will be offered at some point?

Still looking forward to that under 50-watt head you guys were/are working on.

Oh ya! For sure. They had one built there with gold piping/different grille cloth for the SL67. So I'm sure.

On a side note, I've been listening to Pete Thorn's album "Guitar Nerd" and it f'n slays! Good work man! Were you using a PT-100, SL68, or a bunch of amps? If these folks here listen to the album I bet you'd sell tons of these amps lol!

Hi Pete,

I played a PT-100 back in 2011. Can you compare it to the third and second channel of that amp for us? While I liked the PT-100 I just could not find myself able to dial out the overall brightness/highs in that amp. Also, did not have a real need for the thump knob (or whatever it was called) and found the third channel too modern in tone. Is there a SL67 in the works or was that meant to be SL68?

Thank you!

Hiya, long story short- everything you mention has been addressed. There's been a bunch of mods to ch2/3-we dialed in ch2/3 to sound like the Marshall of your dreams, with enough range on the tone controls (especially the treble) to match up with any good quality speakers/cab. With just a tweak of the bright switch and treble on ch2/3- greenbacks. V30's, M75's, etc etc or our choice, the Creamback H75... They all sound great.

Whomp has been replaced by a 3 position depth switch. The middle position is what I use, and you have the option of a bit more or less, all 3 are great useable tones.

The new boost is leaner and "sweeter" sounding, making the boosted ch2/3 sound like a killer gainy modded Marshall. Nothing wrong with the old tube boost but it had a lot of low end, making things more "modern". Lower filtering and the new output transformer all keep things in the Plexi realm, which is the tone I feel is my home base, the one that I always come back to.

I really want people to put this amp next to the best competitors out there and let em go head to head. I think it's the very best American clean/British drive amp available.

Yes, SL67- 50 watt Plexi. With variac switch, makes the amp about 20 watts... And a ppimv. It's killer! Available now

Thanks Pete.. THIS ^ is everything I was hoping the newer version PT would address and evolve. Look forward to hearing more clips and reviews. Cheers and all the best. Now let's get a new solo album from you soon!!

Hi, thanks! I used the SL68, original PT, Badger 30, and a few others like an original Marsha, etc... Used the Axe FX too......

the excessive bass needed to be addressed in all the suhr circuits...se, pt, od etc If it had only the amount of bass a stock marshall had and everything else the same, it would be much more to my liking. This is where the friedman circuit got it right..

Pete - I just watched your demo of the SL68 from 2011 - sounded amazing - and very similar to the newer version of the PT100! When you get to demoing the new signature amp, please play Perplexed like you did on the SL68 demo!

When the clip is posted could you kindly make an effort to include what equipment was used to produce the original tone- e.g. speakers(sounds like they will be H75's), any pedals, pickups... Same could go for that SL67 clip that I liked. Thank you again.

John and I spent countless hours dialing in the tone of the preamp, balanced with depth in the power section. Thin the bass in the pre too much, and add it back via depth- sure, it sounds tight, even with lotsa gain- but single notes get thin and screechy, and things start to sound fake to me just adding depth in. It's a balance. And I think we got the magic balance :) put it up against any amp out there, I think you'll find we nailed the formula for magic Marshall-type tone.

Ok, will do. You can get real close to the SL68 with this amp, I mean like splitting hairs close.

Sweet!

OK, so-

Addressing the availability/run of 50 situation-

the redesigned PT100 will live on and become a regular part of the Suhr product lineup. This custom run of 50 is all about the special "Signature Edition"- a matching cab, the look, custom carbon fiber tolex, etc. This is something special we did for this 2014 NAMM.

After this run of 50 amps and cabs, the look will change a bit, and you'll be able to order the head separately, through the Suhr dealer of your choice. Functionality and features will be identical to the signature model,, just the cosmetics will be a bit different- we are still making decisions on the details of the look. Pricing TBD.

Everyone that wants one of these amps will be able to have one. Thanks for your interest, the positive feedback has been overwhelming and it's very exciting and an honor for me!

So cool to have first hand knowledge and posts from Pete!
