They just released a new music video with more Gower modded Marshall mayhem!!

hey, dan
what jcm was that? his 2205 or the 2203 in the video?

This album is still always on rotation for me, I love the songs, the playing and the production. Guitar tone isn't too shabby either ;) .

The amp in the video was an Orange head from what i can see. It was the modded 2203 on the recording though

Cheers Tony! Glad you like it man

the video's say they don't exist now...

Man, I found some other video's of them live and they are seriously tight. That singer is one hell of a guitar player. Saw one vid where he finishes some fast sweeps legato because he's adjusting the mic stand with his right hand. Very talented.

In this vid they're using Orange. Any idea if they are Rockerverb's or something else? Do you have to use a pedal to get Orange's to sound like this. I've never payed through a stock Orange that can get this kind of tight metal sound.

Dan,

How would you descibe the tone and feel differences of the sylosis mod versus the cali mod?
The clipping circuit differs, but is it still diode clipping? more or less diode clipping?

Actually in that video, Josh (singer/lead guitarist) is using the JCM800 i modified for him. It's the far right amp on the stage, and it's sat on top of an Orange 4x12  It looks different to a normal 800, because instead of black grill cloth on the headshell it has basket weave.

Josh did own a Thunderverb in the past, but he told me that it is so overly squishy/loose in the feel and that it's nearly un-usable unless you hit the front end with a TS to tighten it up. He sold his off, and he now has 2 modded Marshalls that i did for him... The 800 in that video and a 77 JMP which is a variation of the Killer Kali++ Mod.

Hey Nico,

The Sylosis Mod does have a diode clip circuit, but it's slightly different to the 2 clip settings on the Cali Mod.. It sits somewhere between the 2 settings on the Cali. The feel of the Sylosis Mod is a bit more articulate and aggressive, tone-wise it is slightly more modern too.

Cool, I can see the JCM800. It sounds killer. Everything you said makes perfect sense because I've never heard Orange be good for anything other than classic hard rock.

I love that they use Gibsons and not ESP/LTd's. Seeing that kind of metal rocked out on SG's and a Firebird is pretty cool. I think Gibson's still make better metal guitars than any imported, EMG loaded stuff I've ever tried.

Yeah that SG sounds really good, very tight and aggressive. It's one of those Robot series SG Silverburst models which tunes itself, but Josh had the Robot circuitry all removed. If i remember right, Josh uses 10-52's on his guitars so the thicker low string definitely helps when playing fast stuff.. And they're playing in Standard 99% of the time, which makes it sound even tighter.

He has a rare Custom Shop LP Axcess 'Custom' with the ebony board and identical styling of an LP Custom, but it has the Axcess neck heel and slimmer body. That's my favorite of all his guitars, really sounds huge.

Since Josh's SG and Firebird sound much tighter than his LP, i installed a switch on his latest modded Marshall which adjusts the feel and low end to suit the different guitars. One setting makes it more articulate for when he uses the LP, and the other setting makes it a bit looser for when he switches to the SG and Firebird.

Dan,

Does Josh still boost your modded amp with a TS?
Also what speaker does he use?
