Wow, I like it. Send me one to try out....

Cheap ass, buy one   I already placed an order for one, no stock yet or else I'd buy one of these. I wasn't too impressed with the ClinchFX EP-Pre but we'll see how this one goes.

Wow you didnt like the Clinch version... I love the tone the EP3 gives so I was sure the Clinch was the one to get...then I heard about the xotic EP. Let me know how you like it.

Yes, I will. The Clinch one is kind of cheaply made, very plastic. That wasn't the main reason though, it just had a fake sound to it, especially when using gain, almost like using one of those Sonic BBE maximizer pedals. The guy I sold it to, sold it right after he got it as well. I'm not holding my breath on this one though, I doubt if it will have the headroom that a real deal EP-3 has.

You can run it at 18v for more headroom though.

u have a DOD FET, the grey blue pedal with one knob and no switch?? wanna sell it? : P)

I saw this pedal a few months back on Xotic website.....interesting to say the least.

can we see a shot of the inside to see the eq switches?

If you guys like simple boosters, for $100 buy a tri-od kit from BYOC.... gives you three different boosters in one pedal, very very very cool for boosting a marshall. :)

That fake sound you refer to is phasing. the BBE sonic maximizer causes horrific phase distortions, and audiophile mastering engineer friend of mine did some testing for me after i told him the BBE just never sounded right, that it seems to take away from the natural guitar sound. we were amazed at what we saw happening in terms of phase.

I found a post about the original EP-3 quoted below. it seems phasing is part of the EP-3 sound so it makes sense that you liken it to the BBE.

The reason I mentioned the BBE sonic stomp earlier is because it's biggest selling feature is that your amp sounds like it was covered with a blanket before - and after using the sonic stomp, your amp would sound like the blanket was taken off.

this has to do with the phase of bass and treble and our hearing.

there is that same phase shift going on with this EP_PRE pedal, but this pedal DOES NOT ruin tone.

I for one want to keep my phase intact and would not use this pedal. MANY swear by the BBE and Im sure the same crowd will love this booster.

here is a quote from the Clinch effects guy after testing the EP-3. it seems that the thread linked below is where the original idea came from for this pedal to exist. the original poster can be credited for the idea.

OK, it took a few days longer than I planned, but I finally got to have a listen to it today.

On the test bench, it has a small amount of bottom end roll-off and 6db or more top end roll-off. When you listen to it, there seems to be something else, so I took another look on the bench.

The circuit inverts the phase, but it's not a constant 180 degrees through the frequency range. It's close to 180 at low frequencies, but varies away from 180 as frequency increases. I know from experience that this causes coloration. In this case, it sounds quite good.
