NGD Agile LP Custom Order

In my OP, I mentioned a desire for a black 24-fret LP with P90's. Well, I grabbed one of these and am installing a pair of GFS Mean 90's. http://www.rondomusic.com/al3110se627flatblack.html The weight isn't there in this model. Pretty light. But for the $... I'll post pix when I'm done.

One thing I discovered is that the heel on a standard LP style neck greatly hinders access to the upper frets. I'm going to see if I can shave it down a bit to get back some of the reach. Glad I got the contoured neck-through on the wine flame custom order.

So now my Dillion DLJR-58 is for sale...

Here's the flat black Agile with GFS Mean 90's

Show us the backside of the AL-3200. I'd like to see the neck joint...if it's the "extra slim neck-thru design".

I cant understand the prices people pay for a gibson LP these days.

Resale value, dude....a LPC is money in the bank, and you can always dump it for pretty much what you paid if you bought used.

Never gonna see that on an ESP or an Epiphone.

To the OP: HNGD man....that thing is the balls.

Most people don't realize that gibsons have always been expensive. I remember when I was 12 I wanted a LPC at a local store. And it was almost $800 then. That was a lot money in 1974. Now do the inflation indexing. Of course, you could get them for 400 or 500 used then. But that was still a lot of money then.

The only time they got really inexpensive was during the hair metal days and you could pick one up for 375 or 400 all day long. But that time period was the exception.

I think Gibson has a really good line right now that ranges from inexpensive and very expensive. And almost all I've played lately have been really good whether they were the cheaper or more expensive.

Maple top a veneer?
I think many of Rondo's maple tops are real wood, like 1/2 to 3/4 inches.
Yeah many maple caps are real wood on mid level LP copies, but they often put a very thin veneer overtop for improved wood gain appearance.

3/4" maple top over mahogany. I don't know if they did a veneer for the grain. I just sent Kurt an e-mail to find out.

I think they pick good tops rather than a thin veneer. I had a spalted top that was terrific. I guess I've never dinged one bad enough to see a difference in tops.

Heard back from Kurt. It's a 1/16” thick flame top veneer over the 3/4" maple top, over mahogany.

congrats

I got one of the low end Agiles about 10 years ago. It beat just about every other guitar I tried in the same price range. It was not a Gibson killer though, I sold it when I upgraded to a Gibson VMLP. That said, if the better Agiles show a similar price/quality ratio then I have no problem seeing where someone could prefer one to a Gibson.

I sold my VMLP a few years later, guess I'm not much of an LP fan after all.  I usually ignore resale value when I purchase, but over the years I have observed that only Rickenbacker bass guitars and Parker guitars tend to stay in my collection. Nothing else has ever lasted more than a few years.

I had no problems dealing with Rondo, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

Yeah very7 common. You'd be hard pressed to find a sub 1K guitar without a veneer top. Epiphone. LTD, PRS SE, they all have veneer quilt and flame tops. Purely aesthetics. The primo looking tops are saved for the high dollar guitars typically. This is a veneer top PRS SE that I am looking at..
