Negotiated a price on a "brand new" So-Cal at a good price, (15% off, matching the other offers), all was well.
Then, I received the guitar. It was loosely wrapped in some bubble-wrap, and thrown in a box, and flopped around loose. Not a factory box, either. I emailed and asked who packed it, does it not come with allen wrenches, and to tell them of a hairline crack in the neck pocket, (small, but there).

I get a response today, "that was actually a display model we had for awhile". Really? You listed it as ("brand new, $899.99), yet I passed on a metallic black one that they offered to me at $600, because I wanted white, it was brand new, and we negotiated a price of $764? WTF??

The guitar, is pretty awesome. I had to put .010's on it, and do a set-up, but now plays and sounds pretty awesome.

So, should I push the issue? I feel like I was duped. If they offered the display at $675, but said they do $600, why would I pay $764 for white, that was listed as new, yet was a display as well?? WTF is with online dealers' shenanigans?

I hate stuff like that but the win in all of this is that the guitar kicks ass so I'd keep it. But, I would call them and tell them in a friendly way that they need to be more open about any issues. It won't affect someone buying it if it is something they really want.

Gotcha. That's kinda shitty a Floyd-equipment guitar doesn't come with allen wrenches! That's fine, I can live with that. They still pulled a fast one.

I had a similar thing happen many many years ago with MF. I ordered a new 6505+ for $899 with discount I believe. When I got it it was clearly used/not sealed or anything and I called them and asked WTF? They admitted it was a return and stuff, open box, but that was never discussed previously. Anyway, I kept it because they actually gave me a $200 partial refund.

I agree. They offered me a "display model" in metallic black for much less. I made an offer on a brand new in white, and they shipped me a white display model, for the price we agreed upon for a new one. Funny part is, they never showed a display model online, just the one I bought, which still shows the listing as "new".

Yeah, they listed a black one at $675, and offered it to me for $600. So, I sent them a link to the new one in white at $899, and said I'd take that one at $764, and they agreed.

So far, they've just said "return it". Taking no accountability whatsoever. They think I'm stupid or crazy I guess. I told them I don't want to return it, I want them to adjust accordingly for "display vs. new". They don't seem to think they did anything wrong.
