So much Charvel luv going on around here these days, wonder what's up? A flavor of the moment thing? Nah, these guitars just kick ass!
Gotta thank Curt/Chubtone for the great deal! The price, sampling the instrument to ensure the quality, getting it out the door quickly, etc, the entire transaction was a breeze and that was great for me because I'm not a big online purchaser, especially music gear (and in particular, guitars, much rather play one before buying - this is the ONLY guitar I've EVER bought without actually playing it). But yeah, already owning a US Pro Mod, Curt's rep and what not, welp, just made the whole deal a breeze, no worries, so thanks again man.
This is no review thread, lol, no detailed pics from a dozen angles, no breakdown of the pickups, etc, there's enough of those around, I'll just say that the comparison with my US model is very favorable, in fact, in some ways, the MIJ is better - the toggle switch for one feels much more sturdy compared to the US switch (from day one) and the fretwork looks a little better as well.
I did tweak a few things: Swapped the floyd out with an old MIG floyd that I've been dying to find a use for (the chrome didn't look right on my earthy colored Charvel), recessed the pickups a tad (I don't like 'em literally kissing the strings and these were) and finally, #0000 wooled the neck/fretboard. A lot of guys are swapping the JB out, I kinda like it tracked, surprising I guess, cause the "in the room" sound is not what I'm looking for, but, I dunno, it sounds great to me recorded and that's all I care about. Might get a custom custom down the line though.
Top picture is stock, right outta the box...
And these are after the mentioned tweaks...
^^ Eh, worked out pretty neat, I only have 4 main guitars right now, 2 US made and 2 Jap made (1 US Nez, 1 Japan Nez, 1 US Charvel, 1 Japan Charvel)
