Thanks for all the comments! As for the comparisons (US/Japan, necks, Floyds, etc), I simply haven't had the new one long enough to make a fair A/B, Curt would really need to chime in on that....but so far, I can't see, hear or feel any major difference in tone or playability between the two, other than I LOVE, LOVE, my So Cal sporting the Super Distortion in the bridge.

Pickup rings would be a nice touch, and I'd be on that if I were going for a full on 80's relic look - but I'm not, I kinda like the more modern vibe of direct mounted (Suhr, Wolfgang, J Custom/Prestige, etc), it just looks faster to me. ;)

Beautiful!!!! Can't wait to get mine and for sure, I'm going with Curt as well! Seems like a heck of a guy to deal with!!!!!

Thanks Marshallman...he'll hook you up, that's for sure. I have a local friend I've been buying gear from for over twenty years, he always gives me at least $100 off new guitars - but he couldn't match Chubtones offer so it was a "no hard feelings, but money is tight these days" kinda thing. He'll still take care of me next time I'm sure.

Newayz, quick opinion time people....I slapped in (just layed them in) a pair of rings I've had setting in my box o guts. Yeah or Nay?

Nice guitar, I like both. Your decision. I'm no help.

Hey guys, thanks for the Chubtone and Charvel lovefest! And I'm very glad Rock N Run is digging his

Hey Curt....I just picked up the Charvel book last week, and you're in it!!! Obviously you know that, but I was totally freaking out when I saw your picture in the book and was reading about you and Squid Music. Very cool and congrats! And for anyone else, that is a really cool book about Wayne Charvel and the history of the guitars if you're Charvel fans.

Here's where I got my book at:

And the white Pro Mod looks killer! My favorite color for those. Nice score!

Cool book to a degree but it contains a lot of misinformation (or "questionable info" at best) that has since been pointed out by many of the Charvel screw-counters.

Yeah, thanks for the input nighttrain (and others)...definitely leaning on leaving it be and going with why I liked the look of the guitar to begin with. I just remembered that I had some old rings and wanted some feedback. Not knocking the rings, think these guitars DO look good with 'em as well, just a bit better w/o...personal pref I reckon.

Love white Charvels! Is it a pearl white??

I say rings, if you want your guitar to look the way all USA Charvels looked. To me, no rings = musicyo!

Curt gave me a package deal

Look, I just got out of the pool.

That was so funny that right as I saw that comment and pic I literally laughed out loud right as a customer was asking me about a small practice amp. He thought I was laughing at him so I had to show him the pic on my screen and tell him you guys were making fun of my package deal. I still don't think he got it, but he's still here playing through a Crate GT-15. Tone for days.

As Rupe pointed out, that book has a ton of inaccuracies. I was happy to help in any way I could because the author was a very kind, older gentlemen who was the sales rep for some of the lines I carried and he was friends with Wayne Charvel. But even the guitars he photographed Jay and I with were made well after Wayne was no longer involved with Charvel and I kept trying to get that across. The real Charvel story is very interesting but Wayne gets/takes way more credit for the Charvel companies success than many feel he should. He sold the company to Grover in 1978 and things didn't really get cooking until after 1980. It's strangely ironic to look at the Wayne Guitars site and see all these Wayne guitars that are styled after Charvel guitars from an era well after Wayne had left and Grover was in charge of and behind the cool stuff happening there.

I don't even thing Wayne ever offered anything but parts until Grover took over. Did Charvel even build any complete guitars under Wayne's ownership?

Wow, that's cool that you have a good inside scoop on the whole thing! I also was surprised to find out Wayne sold/left the company way back in '78. After that was when everything started really happening. Either way, loved reading about all that stuff going on back then, having been a kid back then and wishing I could get a Charvel and intrigued by all the awesome guitars coming from San Dimas!
