NGD - Dunable Custom Shop Yeti

So I recently picked this up off Facebook Marketplace on a whim. The price seemed good for a Custom Shop Dunable and I thought it looked really cool. I'm a sucker for matte/satin black finishes.

I could tell looking at who the seller was (some 30-year old Mom) that they probably didn't know much about it, and I was right. It was basically a gift she had bought for her then-boyfriend who cheated on her so she took it from him (hopefully legally) . Unfortunately the guitar case smelled (still does smell) horribly like weed and the guitar needed some cleaning up a total setup. The hardware was deliberately aged nickel but the gunk on the frets/fretboard were another story. I was able to talk her down further on the price, so in the end it was quite a good deal.

After cleaning it up and trying to get it setup to my liking, I like how it plays and feels. I think the pickups on it look really cool, kind of a Type O vibe, but I really don't think I like how they sound. These are their "Slugwolf" pickups and despite being wound to around 14k, they feel and sound underpowered and are actually kind of thin and weak. Just not what I was expecting. I'll see if I can upload a clip or video or something in a bit.

It's all mahogany with an ebony board and jumbo nickel frets, 25.5" scale, 1.65" nut and 12" radius. Never have played a Dunable previously so it's pretty cool to get my hands on one.

Happy New Guitar Day, and congrats on scoring a killer deal.
I have a friend that loves Dunable top end stuff. Would like to try one some day.

This is way cool. I've looked at them from time to time. I think I'd have been surprised if the case DIDN'T smell like weed. It is a Dunable and is a stoner / doom rock machine after all.
Can confirm. That guitar and case is supposed to smell like weed.

Man, it smells SO bad. I have tried airing it out on the porch in the Sun for hours and hours - still fuckin' rank! Next I'm going to try some Ozium.

She ended up letting this go to me for $1700, which I think was a good deal.

Maybe something up with the wiring causing the weak sound?
Nah, it's as simple as can be and looks solid. Looking up info on these pickups that is out there I see others say similar things about them. Surprisingly low seeming output for the wind. They are very clear sounding...but again, for the target audience of these guitars it's not what I expect.

Is it just a volume control? Or is it dual action volume / tone if you pull it out or something?

Nice grab man. I have a couple of USA Dunables (Yeti and Cyclops) and they're great guitars but yeah the pickups don't really do the tight/saturated thing IMO. Pretty clear but feel like they're missing some push. I've swapped them in both of mine.

It's too bad because they look cool, but I'm definitely going to swap them out. I have a bunch of pickups laying around. I think my best options are:

Bridge: 500T, A5 Nailbomb, EMG 81
Neck: 496R, Burstbucker, Marshallhead Neck, EMG 60

:dunno:
