i went to guitar center to buy a $20 power supply for a pedal, when i saw this. esp eclipse standard II (2006) with the old school logo, which idk why, just more eye pleasing to me than the E-II logo. It was one of those instances where i picked it up, played it for about 30 seconds and went "goddamn it.... i gotta buy this". It plays so damn smooth. I usually play pretty traditional guitars (strats, lp's exploreres, etc), so going to one of these performance based guitars with the flatter radius, the body contours, the extra jumbo frets, lp / 3x3 tuners that actually stay in tune, its as light as a feather, etc really helps you cruise.
My son couldn't put it down either. I think i'm going to actually keep the emgs too, they sound fine to me.

I've always wanted to try one of these.. do they compare anything to an LP or are they totally different?

I got another new guitar last week as well. Cordoba nylon because my new Ibanez nylon was lonely. I got new piano too but it hasn’t arrived yet.

I've got one. They are awesome hotrods. The neck is just right (thin/fast) and the body is a bit thinner than a traditional LP, but mine still weighs over 8 lbs and has a loud acoustic voice. Great resonance! The EMGs and extra jumbo frets work perfectly for its intended mission.

From what I've seen, recent E-IIs tend to have thicker necks than the earlier Stds, so advantage if you like thinner necks. It is NO WAY an ultra-thin neck, similar to a Gibon 60s slim taper, maybe a little girthier.

The regular thickness ones probably sit somewhere between an SG and an LP. They don't have quite the girth of an LP, especially in the lower mids. But they are typically lighter and your picking arm sits a little closer to your body which you may or may not like.

I dug this out out from under my bed where it had been sleeping for the last 6 months.. and it's going to the gig with me tonight.
