I'm not a huge EVH fan like some others on this board, so the only time I think I remember seeing EVH play a guitar like this, IIRC, it was an Ibanez Destroyer where Eddie cut a "V" section out of the body. Was that Ibanez Eddie played made out of basswood as well? I have an RG Custom that has a basswood body with a Floyd (okay, it's an Ibanez Edge Floyd), and that guitar is unbelievably lightweight.
Nah. The guitar you are talking about was Korina as far as I know. He didn't move to basswood until the Ernie Ball guitars. Even the original Star I posted wasn't basswood. He just digs basswood now.

Made in Mexico...ugh. Other than that looks cool.
Why ugh? This is the best $1000 guitar I've played - fit and finish, sound, playability. I'm, very impressed with this guitar regardless of where it was made... :dunno:

Steve
Just because it would be nice to see Made in USA on it...that's all. HNGD
Totally get that! Thanks man...

I agree. However it wouldn't say $1099 on it then, more like $2499 and THAT is a big difference.

That's so freakin' cool, your pictures make me want to buy it even more (why couldn't you take some small out of focus crappy camera pics?).

I haven't picked up the Unchained yet either, I feel an impulse double purchase coming on, glad to hear you're finding the playability pretty decent on this.

but if this is the exact same headstock EVH had on his guitar (and based on the previous thread a few months back, I think it's accurate), then it immediately gets some points from me for being historically accurate!

This is from the 1980 World Invasion Tour and he had the guitar with that headstock as early as 1979...

His hairstyle in that pic resembles the hairstyle wore by Peg in Married With Children.
They both ROCK!

Yup. Personally, I'm thrilled with this guitar for the price...

I highly recommend this guitar... Talk to Chub... The playability isn't just pretty decent, it's very, very good and it sounds mean as a snake!

Steve

Kinda cool.

Does that shape of guitar sound good?
I've never played one.

I've had several stars made from different types of wood, etc., and honestly, they all sounded good. I've had strats that sounded horrible and some that sounded great. This star, with the lightweight basswood body sounds great - tons of sustain and mean... I think the pickup has a lot to do with the aggressive tone...

I like everything about you and your posts but those guitars are God awful and I would never spend a grand on one of those. .... Ever. I can't believe someone had the idea to issue these and that people actually wanted to buy it!! I guess some intern at EVH inc. Kept his job after all! " son, we love the idea, take the rest of the week off!!"

Do you like any star bodied guitars? Just wondering... It's a helluva guitar for a bit over a grand, but I get many won't like it. What can I say? Ed was my hero back then and when I saw them in '80, I'd never really seen a star body guitar before and immediately dug it. Paint looks cool too... :D

The Ibanez destroyer was made out of ash NOT korina, I own a '76 Ibanez destroyer, but they called it a 'korina finish' for some reason, who knows what EVH's original star was made out of, my guess either ash or alder

Yeah, you're right that it was only a "korina finish". Forgot that... But, you mean mahogany, not ash, right?

Among other details, these instruments attempted to reproduce the translucent natural finish on the bodies of the Gibson guitars’ limba wood, an African species that resembled mahogany. The bodies on most Ibanez korinas looked like ash, but were actually a type of mahogany known as “sen.”

Steve, what time would you like to return the guitar for a full refund? :D

That's ok. The American economy would appreciate it.

Never.

no star guitar will ever be on my list BUT if I had to choose one, I liked the old dean dimebag star shaped axes. Besides that though, my fetish lies with the explorers. Those axes look so badass! Def my next guitar if I can free up the funds. I will say that the evh star does look like it has a nice paint job ( or print on graphic!) :D looks like Kim Mitchell would love it though! He is a wild wild party! ( another canada shout out)
