I sold my 68 custom stupidly in 2024.
I've regretted selling it ever since I sold it.
Then I pulled the trigger again.
This is gorgeous guitar!

Hell yeah man, beautiful guitar!

I picked up one of these not too long ago as well. No weight relief chambers, neck profile is just a hair slimmer than a 50's baseball bat neck (about 80% of the way towards a 50's neck from a 60's neck), shallower headstock angle for better tuning stability, ABR-1 bridge which imo is fantastic for the guitar's resonance. It's my favorite Les Paul. Totally love it. Congrats!

I remember you modded yours pretty heavily, right?? I am thinking of changing parts with black and pickup swap for EMG's. Someone might think this is waste of nice guitar. But, I am sure blacked out 68 custom look damn good.

Yup that's me. And people can think what they want. :D

IMO the EMGs were a total upgrade and to my ears it sounds fantastic. The look and marketing of that guitar might fool people, but make no mistake, it's a monster for metal rhythm. The action gets crazy low with no buzzing, and the big neck, thicker body, and ABR-1 give it a ton of sustain and treble snap. I also like the Les Paul knob placement, you never hit a knob accidentally with your hand so you can go kinda nuts with picking follow-through without worrying about clanking a knuckle against anything.

I get how some people look at the discolored nitro and witch hat knobs and immediately think "vintage grandpa guitar" but it's really not that at all. Even the stock pickups sound great and are tight enough for metal. I just personally found them slightly outside of what I wanted to do, which led me down the pickup rabbit hole.

When I had before, I swapped to duncan distortion. I like stock pickup either until I tune to e standard or drop d. I am thinking C standard tuning. In that tuning, EMG's are better than stock pickup.
And for the knobs, I prefer speed knobs to hat knobs. So, knobs will be swapped soon.

been wanting a Custom, gotta find one close to 9lbs though as the 10lb guitar days aren't for me - killer looking Paul, congrats

The new reissues are pretty light. I have a 68RI LPC from the 2000s and from 2021-ish. The latter is around 10lbs (I weighed it) but the newer one is much lighter (haven't bothered to weigh it but could be under 9lbs because it feels so light). Also have an R8 from '18-ish and it feels very light as well.

Nice, I have a 57 VOS and a few 58 Reissues all mid to low 8lb range - that's ideal, but I wouldn't be mad at a 9lb Custom

Yep mine comes in at like 9.3 lbs. In my experience they aren't too hard to find around the weight you're looking for.
