This got delivered today. A 2002 MIJ SL-3. It's in great shape, I've never played on of these before and I got a good deal on it so I thought I'd take a gamble.
the good:
it's in great shape (I had to clean it up polish the frets etc. but now it's looking good.
frets are nice and full, sting alignment is good.
the Bad:
not loving the pick ups, it's 2002 so it could be a distortion in the bridge , it's not labeled so i can't tell but it doesn't sound like a JB.
The hot rails do not sound 'stratty " at all, and I need that if I'm going to gig this thing.
the trem arm assembly on this trem is awful. if I decide it's a keeper OFR is going in.
Surprises:
the neck on this is much fuller than I expected, not a bad thing but I wasn't expecting it.
the gloss finish on the back of the neck was so thick it ,for me it almost made the guitar unplayable,
so I took it down to a satin finish with my trusty old scotch brite pad and now it's pretty shreddy.
too soon to know whether she's a keeper or not, I gigged my 93 soloist XL last weekend and had a great gig so it's got some competition.
I also picked up a Prestige RG 655M which I am un expectedly really bonding with.
any way some pics.

been playing this thing for hours today. I've got it dialed in nice. It is a Distortion in the Bridge ( my buddy has 2 of these same year they had Distortions)
If this had a real floyd (which it will probably get) and an ebony fret board , what would make the new SL1 Americans worth over a grand more than these? this thing freaking shreds now.
