Here's the kicker... 8 pounds 4 ounces. On the light side. :)

My dealer has a really killer R7 Goldtop now too.

Nice. My R8 is my favorite guitar. Still have the stock PAFs (BB2 I believe) in there and it sounds awesome. the bridge pick-up has become a little microphonic though. Nothing the Decimator can't control, but I've been thinking of swapping the pick-ups for some BK Black Dogs, Mules or the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary. I need to look into these new pick-ups Gibson is using.

Nevermind the sticker, take the whole damn pick-guard off. I hate those things. lol

I still really like my LP Customs (BB7 & 68 RI)... but these just sounded and played so great right out of the box... it was a real WOW moment.

Definitely checkout these CustomBuckers. I'm not a big PAF afficiando or anything... I usually use much higher output more modern pickups... but even to me they sound great. Someone on one forum or another, said Gibson took some aftermarket boutique PAF clones and reverse-engineered them with some tweaks. I don't know for sure... but they sound great... and can even work for some modern metal.

I will. I like keeping my R8 as close to stock as possible so I've been hesitant on changing pick-ups. I figure other Gibson pick-ups are acceptable. lol I did swap for some direct replacement locking tuners though.

The BB2s sound really good and with the tone of the wood on this guitar, can sound plenty mean for metal - even unboosted. My black customs are loaded with high output pickups....Suhr Aldrich and BK painkillers. I really like the Aldrich pick-up in the custom whereas I wasn't a fan of it in my old PRS SC250.

I've had GAS for another R8, but I really want to get a super strat to round out the collection. I like Suhr, but I hate tremolos and finding an acceptable fixed-bridge modern is quite difficult. Lots of European builders building stuff that looks awesome and spec out perfectly, but these days I can't bring myself to drop $3k on something I haven't physically held.

I had the BB2/3 combo in an R0... and really liked it in that guitar. Part of me wants to leave everything stock... but I'm dying to throw some hot ceramics in these and listen to them scream. Both sound good thru my Diezels though as is.

I've looked at some of the Skeversen and Mayones axes... but none have really floored me given the price. My GC has a used Mayones Regius right now that I've played several times and honestly to me they feel and play like a highend Ibanez RG or J-Custom... with the thin necks and satin finishes. Not really my thing. They look nice though.

You could always custom order a Suhr. The ones I've had I always wind up selling for some reason though.

This post is in response mhenson42's post where He says He's thinking about Changing pickups. Please do Yourself a favor and out Prima Guitar Shop Pickups. These are all Handwound Pickups. I was sceptical because Michael's prices are so low, but I read a post on "The Gearpage" where someone said He too was sceptical, but He ordered a set and this Guy's the real deal, hands down the best pickups He'd ever owned. I figured with a post like that they had to be good. I ordered the P.A.ulF. set (PAF) for $180.99 That's 2 Humbuckers, for that price. I installed them on my Brother in laws "335" He's 15 years older than me and has been playing 50+ years. He swears they're the best pickups He's ever heard or owned. You can't buy a better set of pickups at any price. I asked Michael why He doesn't charge more and He said and He said because He wanted to get as many sets of truely great pickups into the hands of average working musicians who couldn't otherwise afford them. Anybody who thinks like that has got my vote. Michael also sells Kluson Tuners, He'll beat any price. Check out Kluson's Revolution Locking Tuners. They're a direct retrofit for the Vintage Style 2 hole Tuners. If You have the 1 hole Grover's check out Gotoh's Delta Series SG 510Z Locking Tuners with the P4N Tulip Buttons from JaParts. Lastly if You want the finest ABR-1 TuneOmatic from my Friend Harris at GMI Guitar in Greece. These ABR-1 TuneOmatics are made from 1060 Cold Rolled Annealed Steel, highest grade of Steel on the market. :They'll give You the best tone ever. Ask Harris to drill it and install 2 tiny Allen Set Screws so You can lock it down tight to Your posts (studs). Tell Harris You want the Steel saddles and a set of Brass saddles too so You can try different tones. You might like Steel on the wound strings and brass on the plain strings. Tell them Jimmy in NC.... sent You. I get nothing from this. It's just when You find something truly good You wanna share it with others. Best Wishes and God Bless to everyone!

I usually know where to find the good stuff. If I can help anyone out there feel free to email and I'll do my best to Help You.
God Bless!

I have 2 RI's a 3 PU BB7 LPC and a R7 Goldtop. These are 08 and 09 models. I actually think custom shop Gibson Historics are some of the best bang for the buck in the used department. Both of mine were under $2500 USD. I want an R8 in desert burst or a R5/6 LPC with P-90's for my next LP

Those are beautiful! I remember when I could buy '57/58s for a quarter ($2,500), great deal on a great guitar. Unfortunately, my income hasn't gone up at the same rate as the prices. I did get an '03 Brazilian board '58 for my son, also named "Gibson". It's in a case only strummed a few times.
