Got it completely taken apart, sanded down with 320 then 400, taped up, and 3 coats of sealer. So far it's looking great. No dust at all in the sealer, which is my biggest concern.

I already have all the equipment to do it, even have some extra sealer laying around. All I need to buy is paper, color, and clear. I will probably be able to do it myself for less then $75.
Ha, what an idiot. Realized I had no hardener or reducer left for my primer/sealer. Paint, tape, paper, cups, beer, beef jerky..... and what the heck, a new touch up 4oz spray gun to add to my tool box. $200 later and I'm finally painting.

custom 5, boom.
Any reason why? I looked at the custom SH5, but I generally prefer ceramic pickups. The JB is alright, but I really prefer the distortion, and I believe those are wound almost identical. I'm really thinking a Nazgul, it's probably the pickup that has left the biggest impression on me in a while. It's so chunky and tight on the low end, but not crazy hot. The other that I really like is a MCP Solution, that thing rips in my KE1.

Dimarzio X2N in the bridge. Other pickup dont matter.
Got that X2N in 3 of my guitars.....daaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Just a tight bad ass pickup. (my opinion will vary with everyone else) :D

LMFAO...the part where you sell whatever you bought for $500 more because you're a ripoff artist should come into play...

Fucking asshole....

what?! happened here?
He's a crazed lunatic on a rampage, that's all. No seriously he has a hard on for me, reason for that no one, including myself has a clue why.

I'm a little late to the party this morning and missed what he obviously must have deleted. Regardless, I'm glad he did. This thread is about restoring a really cool old guitar.
First off, I have zero against you and I am not posting this to shit on your thread. I think the guitar looks killer so far  Since you don't seem aware, I can help you out since I think I know where he is coming from. My post is not to slight you in any manner but to help you become aware of some negative behaviors.

I purchased an amp from you. You shipped it very quickly and it arrived safely. It was a good transaction and you took care of me on it. You work some great deals I am sure and you take pride in buying for way under what an amp or guitar may be worth. I think that is a good thing as long as you are not ripping anyone. Fair market value is fair market value.
I paid you 900 for the amp which was fair. I wasn't aware at the time that you were expecting gift pay. You pm'd me that you would need another $35.00 and that you had to clear 900 less shipping on it because I sent you regular PP. No problem. I sent you the $35.00.
Not long after, in another thread, you were bragging about how you made a trade deal and only paid $350 for the amp you sold me. Really rubbed me wrong. But, it was petty so I moved on. You have done this to others. Like I said we made a fair great deal.
My only point is that it might be a better idea to keep things like this to yourself. It makes you look bad and I know you are an ok Dude. Basically it's the same as rubbing something in another's face and it's not Kosher

I think I remember where I had said that, is was in one of the annual "best deal you got" or "what have you flipped lately" type threads, and that is what people were talking about. Lots of guys have bought and sold gear and made a few bucks off of something here and there, it's why those types of threads get started in the first place. Heck, without naming names, there is someone that is posting in this thread that I know made a killing off of an amp very recently, doesn't bother me. Steinmetzify says what he says because he apparently thinks everyone is owed the "buddy" deal I guess. :dunno:.

Being 100% honest, that Marshall was the best deal I ever made by a huge long shot. I usually am within 10% either way profit OR loss when I buy/sell gear, honestly. With your Marshall being the exception, anything else I've ever sold here has been close to what I originally paid for it. So I'm not sure on the "others" thing.
But simply, to be clear on my end, I have nothing to apologize for either. I made a good deal on that amp ( a really good deal I'll admit) and as you said, sold it for a fair market value, communicated well, and shipped fast. Tons of people have done/do the same exact thing, but normally the buyer never knows what the seller originally paid, and that is on me that you know. For that, I apologize.

BTW dude, don't know if you still have that Marshall, but if you ever decide to sell it, I might want to buy it back. That thing sounded pretty good.

I hear you Bro.
I did a little work on it. Just some lead dress and a really cool cap combination on the board. I did not change any values. I added a Jose Master with three diode clipping options, and I think a resonance control. It was kick ass. I sold it to a member here who knows amps and has had some high end stuff. He also can work on amps and was aware of my mods. I think he loved the thing. No way to know who did it. I know some of the older mods and could not beg that one. It was definitely not an amateur mod.
Well anyway. I appreciate your post.
Merry Christmas!

Ah, so off down the road it went from you too. Oh well, if a member here bought it, maybe eventually it will find it's way back into the classifieds.  I do kind of miss that amp. I would have kept it if it had black cloth instead of brown.

Dude. It was faded. I redied it black. You would never know it didn't come that way. I makes those old Marshall shells look like new.

That guitar is coming out great! Is that a Silver finish?

That is just the sealer/primer. ;) After my kid is done opening gifts, I'm headed to the shop to spray the color, then clear this afternoon.

Color coat, 4 coats. Ruby red paint name, simple flame red basically with some metallic added.

It came out better than expected, and definitely better then the first guitar I did for a friend a long time ago. If it wasn't for a few specs of dust in the paint here and there, it would look like a factory paint job. I just ordered some Kahler parts to get the bridge pack into tip top shape, a new Kahler black locking nut, and I still need to decide on a bridge pickup. I'm thinking either a Solution or Nazgul. The Solution is only about $40 more, but I'll have to wait a few weeks to get it though.

Once I have the guitar completely put back together, I'll get some outdoor sun sparkly pics. :D

Oh man! Good job buddy! I love red, and that looks really good, especially compared to what it used to look like! Can't wait to see the final product!

i picked up a custom 5 on a whim. i had a jap jackson dk2 with a duncan designed jb clone. maple neck, rosewood board, and alder body. after it was installed it was a day and night difference. it was like my rig had a blanket on it before. increased punch and clarity and volume. it was percussive as fuck. almost like kicking on an eq pedal. i'm sold on that pup with that wood combo on a guitar.

I just picked up a Duncan Black Winter used off of Reverb. It's from a store that is only about 70miles away, should have it here pretty quick.

I have the guitar re-assembled at this point, just waiting on the new bridge pickup and Kahler parts to arrive to finish it.

I finished the guitar almost 2 weeks ago, but just now finally had enough sunny weather to get some pictures taken. It came out really great. I put an SD Blackout in the bridge, did some work to the Kahler, and it sounds/plays fantastic.
