So I got my first PRS.

Forever and always, I like the super strat style, so Jackson, Ibanez RG, Caparison, etc... and I've never cared for Tele, LP, Explorer or just about any other body style. Respect them, just never my cup of tea. But I love quality and always wanted to give PRS a try. So while looking through the models, I came across the specs of the PRS CE. The more I researched, I figured 2 tears in a bucket, f*ckit....called up Sweetwater and bought one of their Sweetwater exclusive satin black runs. Arrived today.

Only played it for a few minutes because it arrived hot as shit from the UPS truck and wanted to let it get climated to my studio. But I can say, it's pretty damn awesome, glad I made the plunge. It's resonate as hell, plays really smooth.

It comes with 85/15 PRS pickups (which is the standard pickups in their USA core series). These are medium output and I can tell the difference. All my other guitars are balls out high output pickups. So just plugging into my pedal/amp setup as-is, I can definitely hear the lower output. However, they sound pretty damn awesome, they have soul. Will just tweak my amp/pedals to adjust. But have to admit, I may end up replacing with something higher output, but will see if the lower output grows on me.

A few key differences from the $3500+ models that stood out to me:
- PRS tremolo built in Korea
- bolt-on neck (instead of setneck)
- gig bag (which I like better than a hardshell anyway)
- the back plates are not sunk into the body
- It has less archtop than the core PRS, this is actually a plus for me
- Except these, there are fewer options, like only a pattern thin neck

Built in the USA at same factory, same everything that the higher priced Core series is made.

anyway, some pics below.

Very cool guitar. I actually like the bolt on PRS guitars better. My buddy has an older bolt CE and it is the best sounding PRS I have ever played, especially as far as sustain. Also no huge crappy heel!

yeah that makes sense. I like a bolt-on guitar myself. This plays great, I can reach all the way up to the 24th without changing anything with my left hand, unencumbered (note, I'm normally not good at big words, but God bless spellcheck).

Looks sweet! Looks like a satin-ish neck and great upper fret access. How thin is the neck profile?

yep, neck is satin finished as well, pretty smooth, feels great. The neck is pretty much perfect, it's small and thin so that it feels fast and great, but not as thin as a wizard neck. I think it's a nice fit, I don't like think necks at all, this feels great.

Nice! I love that model. I want to get one soon. Played them many times at sweetwater.

That is a beautiful guitar! Congratulations!

If you do decide to try some higher output pickups, I'd strongly recommend looking into the PRS \m/ (metal) pickups. They came stock in my CU24 Floyd and I was worried they'd be too hot and that I'd need to replace them. So kind of the opposite of your situation. High output or not, they're amazing sounding, super versatile pickups which, IMHO, could be used for just about any kind of music. They immediately went to the top of my short list of favorite pickups. Plus cosmetically, they'd look identical to to your 85/15 set. :)

I completely agree about the neck too. I prefer a fatter LP 50's type neck and I think my PRS has a Pattern Thin profile, which I wasn't sure I'd bond with. It still has a nice, "C" shape, just a little more shallow than I'm used to. It's incredibly comfortable though and I really dig it!

Have fun with yours man!
