New version with the new effects loop, depth control. Ordered from The Music Zoo a couple days ago, arrived today. Could NOT wait to get home from work!!

Spent a good hour with it. Holy sheep shit batman, I'm in love. Sounds amazing, has a great growl that just makes every note pop and sing. It's my dream amp and FINALLY got it. And it fits right in with the boys.

I'll have time this weekend and probably be able to do a recording. If some of you original Soldano guru's would be so kind to post some settings you like, then I'll duplicate those in the video. I will be running through a Suhr Reactive Load.

I got my fav setting from the Soldano forum, not sure if it's still around. It was EVH's settings around the FUCK album. Bass 5-7, Mids 4-6, Presence MAXED and treble on 0, and increase in very small increments. Really adds BITE to the tone and is cab dependent, in regards to the treble. My SLOs loved GB type speakers, V30s not so much.

Congrats on the SLO!

Congrats man! Just looks sweet on that rack. Can't wait for the clip!

Big congratulations. Beautiful amp. You have one hell of a collection.

Is the new SLO set-up for EL34/6L6 select?

Came with Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC’s. I don’t see anything in the instruction manual or on the amp about selecting between different tube types.

It also came with ARS 12ax7 preamp tube’s. I’ve actually never heard of ARS tubes before.

Congrats dude! Happy NAD. Great collection of amps too.

Congrats on the new SLO.

ARS pre's are ... (JJ/Ruby)
The amp DOES NOT accept EL34's

I used to own a SLO years ago and remembered that the KT66's are the magic for power tubes ,so I decided to try different Quads in my new SLO
Popped some Wing =C= 6L6's and they are better than the stock tubes but I like the punch of the KT66's
Got a good deal from Sweetwater on a quad of Gold Lions.

Try some Tung Sol preamp tubes. The new SLO's can show what different tubes are capable of.

I'm running a Fractal Axe FX II XL+ for the effects into the SLO's loop.

Now I am able to crank the Volumes to 5 and let the Fractal become a global Master.
The loops works great and the amp is pretty quiet at high gain settings.

EVH did have the treble at 4 and the Presence at 7.
But I'm going to try the Treble at Zero and set the Presence higher.( thanks Racerxrated)

One thing to remember.... get the Depth turned way down when you get the volume up.

These were EVH and Mike Soldano's settings.
(notice there are no Depth settings)

EVH- Mike S.
Norm-pre- 8 ?
OD pre- 7 7
bass-8 7
mids-3 4
treb- 4 4
norm mast- 5 ?
od mast- 6 ?
pres- 5 7

The SLO forum went down a couple of years ago. I think it's host was going away, or something like that, and they decided not to continue it. It's too bad, because there was a lot of very good info on setting up the SLO on there.

My settings worked well with G12 65s; with GBs I had to back the presence back to 6-7. Treble barely on.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations. Played it all night, time flew by, sucking hind tit this morning too...

I tried some of those settings, the Treble at 0 and Presence at 10 definitely had some sizzle. I started off copying the settings I had in my main go-to AxeFx3 SLO preset, which are the same settings in the pic above. With my pedalboard EQ/OD and Axefx/Eventide H9’s post the Suhr Reactive Load, it’s massive sounding.

For me, the presence is always off on Soldanos. It's a bright amp, and doesn't need any more of those frequencies when using V30s.

Ugh. V30s and SLOs do not like each other from my experience. Presence and treble off, still too many mids. It’s like pairing an 800 with a V30 cab. Not good.
Very different with greenbacks though.

When I had a SLO, I think the gain sweet spot was around 5.5 or 6.5 (can't remember which). Below that, it wasn't saturated enough, but above that it was too saturated. At least with my pickups.

I think I first started with something like Bass 6, Mid 4, Treble 2, Presence 5 or something. And I thought it sounded great, but eventually I think after my ears adjusted to it, I preferred something with less bass and more treble.

I thought the mid control was strange. It was almost more like a treble control. If it was sounding too bright, it was often better for me to just dump the mid knob rather than fussing with the presence and treble controls. That would keep the cut of the amp but make it sound warmer and less harsh IMHO.

Never had trouble with various speakers. It loved a Bogner with V30s. G12-65s and G12Ms were great too.

Congrats

I'm sure you are stoked. Enjoy. Hella collection for sure. Needs more variety though ;)

Same experience with my Splawn.
V30s = bad
Treble on 0 = good

I don't max the Presence but I have not touched my treble knob in years.

All my favourite Soldano tones are with V30s. Lukather, Haynes, Landau. A lot of people use 800s with V30s too, including me :D
