Adam of Angels Helped me find a Suhr Modern and i have to say i am very happy with the one i traded my Jackson ht-7 for. I have kind of bashed on the Suhr Modern design before when it comes to the cutaway. What i have come to realize is that the Suhr modern is the only 24 fret guitar i have ever played that does not feel like your playing a 24 fret guitar and that's a huge deal for me. The other huge selling point for me on these guitars are the neck carve. I have played a ton of traditional guitars and a ton of shredders and this guitar has the perfect compromise. The Modern Elliptical neck with the gg profile is the best feeling neck you will ever play period! The fret work as always from suhr is perfect! Makes me wonder if heavy vs jumbo is the way to go?
My only other experience with the Suhr was the modern Satin. I think the Suhr modern satin may sound a little bit better that the frost i have but the frost neck and body feel much nicer to play. The Satins have a strange grain and gummy feel to them where this guitar has the smoothest neck i have ever played. The finish that Suhr uses on the neck in my opinion feels better that an oil finish to play! The other differences with this guitar is that the frost has a 10"-14" radius. I much prefer this shape to a charvel 12"-16" because it doesn't go from curved to flat which for me is a very odd feeling. I like the 10-14" and i also like the 14" radius as well. I am not sure if i would ever go much flatter than that on a custom build though. I also really like the pau ferro fingerboard. Its smooth like ebony but sounds more like rosewood which i prefer plus its looks great with the green finish.
The biggest revelation on this guitar is the gotoh 510 floating bridge. The guitar stays in perfect tune for the amount of bar use i do and it feels and sounds better than a floyd rose. I have wanted a floating trem forever but could never bond with guitars with floyd rose trems. The gotoh is a millions times easier to deal with and much quicker to tune! I also love the hipshot tuners on the guitar and the 6 in line head stock with staggered tuners is the only way to go for me. The only thing i am not 100% sold on with this guitar are the pickups. I really liked them in the Satin but only time will only tell with this wood combination. They sound amazing for the cleans but may not have enough balls for me for the dirt. What i can say is they are a little more balanced sounding than my holdy divers and probably cover more ground so i may just keep them in for that purpose.
I can't thank Adam of Angels enough. This was probably not my first choice for a trade but it was the best that i was offered i was really looking for a Modern Antique or a frost in a different color. The lime freeze is growing on me though. I miss having the middle pickup that's for sure but its something to look forward to on my next Suhr Modern. The guitar is a 2013 and came in 99% condition which was really awesome. Adam was super smooth to deal with and can't recommend him enough when it comes to trades.
