It's a Peavey HP Special FT
I'm very pleased that I held out for one of these instead of going for a MIJ Charvel or another ESP/Ibanez (no offense to the charvel fans, but I already have enough strat shapes, and need something a bit more versatile).
First thing's first
The neck is a thing of beauty, highly figured birdseye maple
The asymmetrical neck profile is a bit thinner than the Peavey Wolfgang models and a bit wider than the EBMM Axis necks. It still fills the palm and is super comfortable for chords and shredding alike. The neck is oiled and finished like the other Wolfgang/EBMM guitars and is as effortless to play as it is handsome to look at.
The Pickups were handwound by Peavey and are hotter than the Wolfgang pickups and a tad bit bassier than the pickups in the AXIS models. The bridge reminds me of a Seymour Screamin' Demon, or a BKP Steve Stevens. Very even sounding and rich.
The neck pickup isn't too hot, but isn't PAF medium either.
The Trem is a german made floyd variant. Has peaveys' tremel-no type trem stopper. Also has a screw in whammy bar which is cool.
The pickups are both tapped and sound wonderful in single coil "mode".
The trem flutters well and holds tune as well as my favorite Synclairs, Edges, Floyds, Gotohs, etc.
The tuners are solid and feel great.
The Flame Top is stunning and ridiculously hard to capture well with my camera, the natural binding is also a classy touch.
Obviously it doesn't draw the same kind of prestige as upper level Tom Anderson and Suhr guitars but the quality is definitely there.
Matter of fact i'm preferring this HP to the Fender EVH USA guitar we had in the shop last year, as well as the older Wolfgangs i've used and owned.... i'm not a big fan of sig. gear or the ugly top horn, or the pickup selector switch.... So all in all these improvements have definitely won me over.
