Just landed and had some issues. Power tubes (Sylvanias) had come out and one was in the back of the EV as was one of the preamp tube shields. EV had separated from baffle and has pinholes in the dustcap (almost look intentional). Sorted that out with toothpicks in the mounting holes and it seems tight. Some may notice that it has a Mark III faceplate with black EQ area, blacked out 'Pull Shift' above Mid knob and one 'I' blacked out. I was told by an R/T member that's very familiar with these that an EQ upgrade at some point might explain that. The seller did say it had some Mike B work done but didn't know what. Anyway, fired her up and it sounds unreal. Pretty clean too. There is some extra etching near the S/N, not sure what that means. I'll contact Mesa and see if they have any history on it.

Congrats.

I was looking at this one too. Not sure about the etching in the back panel. Tried the loop test? How’s it sound?

Congrats!
Those 60s are the shit, they are just a bit sweeter sounding then the HRG. But, HRG has a sharper more immediate attack. I've read where there have been some serial# under 12500 C+ but not any Cs above that number. I think I've seen 12330 referenced on the Boogie Board? But, the 2C I had sounded killer even before the mod.....

Thanks! Is there a certain loop test? I simply unplugged my cables from my Mark IV and plugged them into the 2C+ and the loop works great imo.

Thanks bro! There is a certain snarly something in the distortion that is addicting. And it just wants to sing...and scream.

If the loop works well then there is no doubt it's a +. Until the C+, the Mark loops were very primitive and downright bad. Horrible..but it was one of the first loops in a tube amp so.....My 2C loop was garbage until I got it back as a +. And the clean in that amp should be amazing.

Ha, I haven't even got to the clean yet. My hands are spent from playing it all afternoon. The Mark IV is so jelly right now.

Did people used to poke holes in EV dustcaps to get a bit more sparkle or something? That doesn't look accidental. Or maybe to pull a caved one back out?

Give it a shot:

The Loop Test –

1) Plug your guitar into the Effects Return jack
2) Switch to lead mode
3) Turn the Lead Drive and Gain controls with a note ringing.
4) If they have NO effect on the volume and sound you have a IIC+.

Awesome. Congrats.

Double check those power tubes. Looks like they are from GTFBS on eBay. Most of his Sylvania power tubes are too hot for Boogie amps.

Thanks! The one with the label facing out says 4950 and 43.6. The other has a slightly lower plate current number, like 42 or something, similar TC. Those are higher than the ones in my Mark IV that you checked. But I don't know what he uses to test them. One of the really low ones you checked was really hummy and I saw some arcing so I pulled that pair.
