We have high end resturaunts,high end car dealers,truck dealers,kitchen dealers,4 wheeler dealers;goodness gracious,the list could on, BUT where's the "SERIOUS ABOUT TONE HIGH END BOUTIQUE" guitar stores in Western PA?...If I drive 4 hours, I'll get to one, If I drive 4 hours the other way,I'll get one...now guess what?..Im out of fuel, but at least not out of g.a.s.......The scary thing is when we buy a 3,500.00 amp without trying it out first, or at least trying the various models to make an educated opinion, it's dangerous to the pocket book, or worse the wife!...Please,would a boutique store appear in PA. NOW

Rainbow Music in State College is bringing in ENGL and 65 Amps. Might be worth the 2.5 hour drive once they have them in stock. I recall a couple smaller shops in the Harrisburg area that carried some cool stuff but I haven't been down there in years...kinda far from Pittsburgh as well. Triple R Guitar was one of them.

Little b and I when't to Penn state yesterday and checked out Rainbow music Nice store. Gary and Mark good guys. Spent 3 hours there just talking with them,and they are picking up Engl,65,and car amps..

I have family in Altoona, so I have been down in that area every now and then. The new Rainbow Music is a very nice store. I always try to go there as well as The Music Mart (?) up on Beaver. That was the first place that I have ever seen a Reverend guitar in person and it came home with me.

I've been buying my gear online for the last several years, even though we have several boutique shops here in metro-Atlanta. They usually have few things in stock, its a PITA to get there during business hours, and then there's sales tax. Most of the good online places have really good return policies (though you'll probably have to pay the return shipping. Not a big deal, because I rarely have had to send things back as I've done my homework as thoroughly as possible). Sometimes they offer free shipping, like Sweetwater was doing for awhile last year. I try the gear out for 1-2 days and decide to keep it or get the RA number to ship it back well before the return period ends.

Pianos N' Stuff and Swissvale Music each carry a handful of 'boutique' brands. I've been going to both of them for almost 25 years now (since long before I could drive!) and have never gotten anything but good help from both of them.

Pianos N' Stuff... best music store in the area IMO.

other than maybe LA or NYC, there's just not anywhere to check out stuff at the level of sickness most are at here on Rig-talk!

you're just not gonna get to try out the gear you want without being an online flipper.


take for instance Denver, which is really fairly decent for gear. they've got shops here and there with maybe 90% of the brands i might be interested in, but even if they're a dealer for a brand, the odds of them stocking all the big dog heads we like around here aren't very good. hell, even for something like Mesa, they'll have a bunch of combo's, some Recto's and maybe only one of either a Roadster, Roadking, or Stiletto at a time.


and even in a city with millions of people, lots of the cool shops still need some online sales to make a go of it.
