Billy Joe Armatrong isn't a "kid with a guitar" either. The dude is 40. He's been at this game for a long time. He came from nothing, and paid his dues. Tours like a mofo. He's earned it.

And just because rock music has hooks, and is played in a major key, doesn't make it "pop" music. Listen to Bieber or Carly Rae Jepsom. That bullshit is pop. True, Green Day is not "heavy rock", but it's still rock. (and the dude has killer tone to boot...)

I'm totally on BJA's side here. F*ck Usher, and f*ck the suits that opted to cut Green Days set.

How would you react if you were a touring, professional musician for about 25 years, and your set got cut short so someone could lip-sync to bad dance music? :confused:

I think it is the audience/fans fault. You can see many of the kids sitting on their hands waiting for the next pop act, the one they really came to see. It's the fans who ultimately dictate which bands get their set shortened because of what they buy.

I have to go with Carl on this. BJA may have had a point but doing what he did didnt serve much of a purpose at all except maybe his own ego...

He deserved to bitch. That said, BJA wants to be Joe Strummer and punk died in the 80's. The man can write a hook but he is lyrically devoid IMO.

Lot of old acts trying to clamor for relevance these days. The whole Korn/Skrillex thing is proof enough. I say let the old men fight for their spot on the roster of an antiquated business model. The ship needs to sink.
