No More Sozos? What are you guys using in your amps?

Mallory seems to be common among the Marshall crowd but to be honest, my home 2204 sounds good but i still find the mallory caps that i have in the preamp stage to be causing a tight aggressive somewhat buzzsaw gain. The amp sounds as it should and i can dial back the presence and treb and get a usable sound but i def. hear something different than my other amps with original Marshall caps or the sozo's in my 1987x. So I figured i'd order more Sozos only to find out that there are currently huge delays on the shipping of these and a lot of on line stores are no longer carrying them. What else have you guys tried? Which orange drops might be smoother or more open? Are the Dijon any good or will I essentially end up with the same sonic issue?

I replaced mallory coupling caps with sozos and I liked the Mallory caps better. Of course, this is back when they just had the one premium cap line and didn't have the extra premium ones...

I like the xicon caps (two different types) as well as the solen caps. I have these in a pair of JCM 800 clones which have a few tweaks.

and I thought sozo was coming out with new caps this year

Pretty sure the Sozo are relabled Illinois Caps? Or atleast Illinois builds them to spec or something?

So is it me or does anyone else not hear a difference between mallory and Sozo?

I just got an SL68 in trade that's using Mallory 150 coupling caps. I have not yet done a lot of comparing of different caps, but the tone of this SL68 is really really good. I cannot imagine a different brand of caps making this head sounding any better. Steven.

I had a 69 with Mallory and one with sozo... the sozo sounded muffled to me, hated it. I think that's why all the old farts on tgp like them so much... they make an art out treble elimination for optimum bedroom tone, volume on 1.

I did a little preamp tube swapping tonight which i think helped more than i had initially thought... my mistake may have been throwing a chinese 12Ax7A (more gain than the B I think..) in V1. I swapped that for a NOS RFT ECC83 and i got a thicker more balanced tone instantly. There is still a lil something there bugging me but not as much as there was. I'd say without pedal it sounds great... with certain pedals (Boss, Koko) there is something i am just not digging.. for some odd reason though, the bad monkey is the only one that is getting along with this amp..
