New old cab day! I've been hunting for a good condition 80's era JCM 800 4x12 cabinet, and scored this one yesterday. Incredible condition for something this old. Opened it up to find it has the early vented G12T-75s dated May 1st, 1984. 8 ohm speakers with the bottom placed recessed cup jack. The back looks like it is the same plywood as everything else, but I could be mistaken as I was sure they started using particle board backs in the 70s.

What everyone says about these speakers is true, they sound nothing like the modern ones, just warmer and fuller all around. Love them! I've struggled with V30s for so long, and I think you just can't beat either greenbacks or G12-65/early G12-T75 for Marshall amps. Between the cab construction and speakers, this is my keeper 4x12 until I can't carry it anymore   I had dropped down to a 2x12 and just realized I needed those 4 speakers and the air moving to get the good sound that the 2x12 wasn't giving me. The Marshall 1960s are an excellent weight and I can carry them up and down the stairs unlike a Mesa or Orange that needs a second person.

I just really needed to find a good one and I found it. Nothing like good vintage mojo

Very nice! I have been using those older g12-75's forever, I love them too. That cab looks very clean too!

Nice score! I agree on moving 4x12's around as I age. Just sold two oversized 4x12 and moving them almost killed me. The 1960's are what I am sticking with.

Congrats! When Marshall first advertised these as high wattage greenbacks they meant the vented version...not so much the following versions. The newer ones can sound nice but no relation to these first versions. Very fat sounding speakers.
You can sometimes find these in the 85-86 cabs with the faded cloth.

Did Marshall ever make an 8 ohm 1960 cab? I've never seen one. four- 8ohm speakers in series/parallel is 8 ohms.

What ohms is that cabinet? Does is say on the ID tag? Just curious?

That is a good looking cab for it's age. You almost can't give 4x12's away these days if you are selling them.

I've owned a Jubilee cab that was 8 ohm mono. But can't recall if any other cabs from that era were 8ohm. My 83 cab is 16 ohm G12 65s.

The tag is for a 260 watt cabinet (G12-65s), but looks like the tag was originally 16 and covered with an 8ohm sticker. Marshall mixed and matched tags and speakers all the time in that era.

My first year ('87) Marshall V30 cab is 8 ohm.

I'm curious if those early Marshall v30s sound different than the modern ones. I have a 2x12 with Marshall v30s from 2017 but I don't like them. Could be just need a lot of break in.

Check out the Mesa spec'd version of the Vintage 30, they're still made in England have a nice tight low end, nice mids without the harsh spike and strident highs that the standard V30's have. They are priced right too for being UK made.

Worth its weight in gold! Nice find!
If you don’t mind my asking, how much did it set you back?

The 87 Jubilee cab I had with the 8 ohm V30s was a much fatter, and warmer sounding cab than the other AV cabs I've owned, and those were 16 ohm, from the early 90s and broken in. Newer ones seem very spikey in the highs, crispy sounding is a good description I've heard before.

Yep, dramatically different. I have that '87 (8 ohm) and a '94 (16 ohm), and they're night and day. That '87 Marshall is the darkest V30 cab I've heard. It's darker than my Mesa V30 cabs. I think it was Racer I was telling a while back that it was so different from what I expected when I got it, I questioned if something was wrong with it (there's not). It's that different.
