The Fortin looks cool but I don't know how the GSeries ISP stuff can be beat....

With my stuff, i need the noise gate to be more aggressive at a band level. In that setup, the Fortin is better for me. Imagine a transparent NS2, that's how the Zuul is.

Hmmm, for me the ns-2 is crap compared to the ISP. This may be the differences in nomenclature. The NS-2 is a GATE, the ISP is a SUPRESSOR. They are quite different. I prefer either supressor in loop only or gate up front and supressor in loop OR the g strings which track the input but gate the loop.

Im still interested in Zuul. Noise gates still have room for improvement.

Does the Zuul really have that ON/OFF behavior of the NS-2?

Another vote for ISP G. Well worth the money. No comparison to the NS-2 I used to have.

i used to use the decimator II but its not needed anymore since getting the fishman fluence moderns. my setup is dead silent.

I'm kind of surprised there is not one with a few different settings. Staccato rhythm playing is very different from leads.

I noticed a tone difference when I took out my isp pro rack g from my rig. Little, but it was there.
I had it setup perfectly. Worked great with my amps. I only had it and the eventide timefactor in the loop. Sounded better without it to me, so I sold it.
I don't like having any kind of noise gate/suppressor in the loop.
My butterslax sounded more clear and brutal without the isp.
I can't wait to try the zuul

The DBX 1074 has 4 different gates and costs like $150 used. One of the best out there.

I've tried so many damn noise gates over the years...

MXR smart gate, rocktron hush, decimator, decimator II, decimator g-string, g-string II, TC sentry, and a couple other ones that I cant remember right now. The NS-2 is still the king for me. 4CM makes my rig 100% silent except for what I want coming out of it. I never experienced peoples complaints about tone suck with the NS-2, either. It does what I want, and none of the other ones that I have tried seem to come close.

It's still a noise gate so if you go too far it will cut your signal, but you can push it further without affecting your tone. The most important aspect of it for me is to be able to cut the feedback at high volume for short staccato riffs and still retain the natural feel of the amp and the Zuul is the best on the market at this.

By the way i use it at 12 volts for more range, Mike told me it was safe to use it like that.

I never use noise gates in the loop for that reason, always in front.

Bingo! I'm glad I got to experience it first hand at least. Gave me a great understanding of what's going on.
Your lucky you got a zuul early, I think it's gonna kick off my smart gate. I just like using a little something up front to bring down the noise floor and clamp down when doing aggressive heavy handed palm mutes. Your description of your needs and the zuul sound perfect for me.

Badass the 12 volt headroom is enough for me period. Ill try one.

Really? I never thought much about it, when I got my ISP GII I just hooked it up and leave it on in the loop and in front... Never thought to test it without the loop... gonna try that.

-They all --SUCK™TONE-- They remind me of X-RAY GLASSES & ATTENUATOR'S,... "OH MY GOD!!!,...
THATS IT!!!.. EXACTLY WHAT I WANT!!!.. so you buy one,. check the mail 3 times a day,.. Then you get it and immediately try it out.....

-we all know the ending,.... The sad part of this story,..... If only it was true!!!.... But just another pipe dream-

The G string is made to be use in the loop, it doesn't gate in front. It's just your signal that pass through the pedal and used to trigger the noise gate in the loop. Unless you use both at the same time, Decimator II & G String II and link them to work together. Like that, it works like the Pro Rack G.

If you ever want to use a ISP GII only up front, you have to put a cable (just use a 6" pedal jumper cable) between DEC IN and GUITAR OUT.

Plug your guitar to amp signal chain into GUITAR IN and out of DEC OUT..... like a regular pedal.

It won't work at all otherwise.

Your are right, it's just that many people think that the G String gates in front and in the loop at the same time. Just to clarify this.
