noise gates

I just saw it on Facebook, the ZUUL will be available for orders tomorrow! For those interested.

I have had great results with ISP products...both rack units and pedals. I can't imagine anything working better but if so, that is cool.

ISP decimator pedal works fine for me but I am not a gain whore like some of you chuggers!

I noticed a tone difference when I took out my isp pro rack g from my rig. Little, but it was there.
I had it setup perfectly. Worked great with my amps. I only had it and the eventide timefactor in the loop. Sounded better without it to me, so I sold it.
I don't like having any kind of noise gate/suppressor in the loop.
My butterslax sounded more clear and brutal without the isp.
I can't wait to try the zuul

+1

I used a pro rack G for years, worked great, but one day, took it out of my setup to try out some pedals and damn, i gained a good 15% of tone back, did not notice it before.

Plugged my Decimator pedal to see and nope, no tone loss at all, it even sounds a tad better with it in there.

So i sold the pro rack and i use the Decimator pedal through an rjm switcher and it is perfect.

The decimator II worked well for me until I started doing more leads - then it allowed feedback through when doing open string pull off runs which would drown out the notes and then at other times seemed to choke the notes on other parts of leads, can't really figure that out.
I have been messing with the TC electronics sentry but haven't been able to fine tune it yet. Hopefully the Zuul will do what I need.

Order 970. I tried a few times this morning and the server was crashing. Just tried now and all is smooth.
Can anyone tell me what exactly I am supposed to do with the "key" input

The key is for tracking your signal like the Decimator G String, to trigger the gate. But input only, need a signal like output for tuner from a volume pedal or something like that. I've never use it on mine.

Website should be solid. At least for now. We upgraded the server after the 33 traffic destroyed it last time, and so much traffic this time it shot it down again. FACEPALM. Really sorry for any hassle guys. Still just a few left if anyone wants any. I Think Mike wants to move to preorders when they sell out, so it will be another month wait for more at least.
So, after all the nonsense, the first ones are being shipped as we speak!

Just get a DBX with 4 gates and multiple adjustment knob to fine tune and get exactly what you need. I got mine used in mint condition for $150. More importantly, it is super transparent.

So if I'm only using my smart gate out front now. That's prob gonna go from the zuul.

From guitar, I go dimebag wah -> tuner -> mxr smart gate -> boost of choice -> amp
I only run an eventide time factor in loop.
So would the key input still be useful here if I was only using it up front, or where does that come in the chain to connect?

Btw, did you try your zuul in the loop at all ? I know we both agreed the pro rack g Lost some of the goods

Are you just running it in the loop or are you running it in front of your amp with your pedals before the the zuul's regular input?

Some amps have great loops and others don't, my amps don't have a good one. So i didn't try it in the loop. I run only a boost into the Zuul in front, that's it.

IMO you should go exactly like you do now. If you have something like a boss tuner you can plug an extra cable in the bypass jack to the key, or you can take anything else that can give you a guitar signal to trigger the gate.

Mike just did a nice video on facebook to show how it works, seems to work great in the loop like that.

I have had the same experience with ISP .... The rack unit "pro rack G" sucks a little tone. HOWEVER the new ISP Decimator II pedal is the most transparent noise gate I have tried. I have also had the first generation pedal and the first generation G string pedal as well as Boss ns2. All of them slightly suck tone.

So yeah the second generation ISP pedals are the way to go. I use them live at band volumes under high gain and work perfectly.
