I think i'm addicted to it now that i got a handle on it. Any suggestions on a good soldering iron to start messing around with pedal kits?

Soldering is the one thing that, no matter how much I do it, I don't get better at it. I have been doing it for 30 yrs. and I still suck. But get a good kit that you can make very hot so you don't have to have the point on a pot for more than a second or two. Chasing down fried pots is a character-building experience.

Will do! Have you tried DIY pedals?

Dude, can you post a pic of that cab?! I'm a TMNT freak!

It's a great feeling to finally figure it out! If you will be doing a lot of soldering, spend the money and get the Weller WD1002 Kit. It is phenomenal and worth every penny! I ran into this kit when visiting a customer for work and was amazed at how well I was soldering with it. So I ordered one the next day for myself and haven't looked back. It holds the temperature well and heats up in less than 10 seconds!

$300 for solder kit, better be doing lots of soldering. Damn

That cab is awesome!

I recently bought this on Amazon along with a cheap little station/base to set it in and it's been great.

Prior to this I had been using a Weller gun that was way too big, clumsy and powerful for fine electronics. I could hardly solder speaker cabs with that setup, let alone a guitar or pedal. After I bought the new iron I took on my first DIY pedal build and surprised myself.
You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars. Grab the iron above or similar (around 30-35 watts max) and some 60/40 rosin core solder and a sponge. That's enough to start. After that you can add a base, helping hand, etc and get into stocking your bench with pedal parts if you like it and want to stick with it.

This PCB is tiny (that wire is 24 awg) and it wasn't very difficult with good tools.

Too fucking cool, man!!!

Once we get our house, I'm going to carve some life-size shells out of foam and mount all their weapons on them to hang on the walls in my studio room. I've got them tatted all over my left shin, eventually I'll have Shredder tatted down the back of it. I'm 33 and act like I'm 10 every time I see anything TMNT related!

Coolest fucking Mesa cab ever! Thanks for the pic!

I've been frustrated by soldering for so long, I might consider this. God I hate soldering, but even more I hate paying someone to do something I feel like I should be able to do.

the trick to soldering is the heat 900 degres a small tip you must heat both parts a clean tip is good to good wire fit helps it takes practice
