   How do the preamps sound compared to the head?, I've never heard one. Mine is my fav head too, and I dont really like 900's ;) It sounds nothing like Curt Mitchells though, maybe with the gain set at 9 o clock :D It has 6 tons of gain, all usable, still tight with no mush, very thick with really good bottom, and not all compressed sounding at all. Todd said he beefed up somthing in the pwr supply to the tubes, and added multiple gain stages, so I am assuming its 5 gain stages. It sounds like its 7     It has 1 additional tube. He also said he changed somthing in the bass control (sweep) but its been 20 years ago, I cant remember exactly what  BTW, contact me if you ever want to part with one of those pre's

No problem Jim

I know Todd was one of the designers on the ADA MP-1 preamp and was the "go to" guy in the SF area for modded Marshalls for all of the local Thrash bands. Back then it was mor about adding gain stages and scooping the mids.

I was doing some work with Forbidden back then and they were early adopters of Todd's preamps. I'm pretty sure they had prototypes.

Great guy, awesome products! No idea where he is today though... kinda lost touch over the years. I'm sure someone here knows.

Here is a pic of my 69 Metal face with the Langner mod.

I believe it has 4 gain stages. the preamps have 5 so they are over the top.
They both sound great. I like to run my preamp into the loop of the head for more gain.
