That graphic EQ can compensate if necessary also, or just use an EQ pedal. I don't actually use the amp reverb even though it sounds good. I use my Quadraverb for all my reverbs.
I have found "my" sounds with that amp, used it extensively for recording and live, and it has never disappointed me. It's the only amp that I can use a Strat to play palm muted metal and still sound good on.

It had no punch to it until the volume was about 2/3 of the way up, and at full tilt it only got as loud as my Mesa does at about 1/3 volume on 50 watts. Also, the boost had seemingly no effect. The eq was great. Also, the overall sound was nowhere near as good as the deliverance. Plus, the efx loop was affecting the aound when it was turned off. When the eq was on, it was like the efx loop was fully on, even though it was off. Also, having the presence and depth controls on the back was infuriating. Maybe it was a bad one, I dunno. I really like the deliverance, just wish it had efx loop and another channel.

Do you own one or did you just play one? If keep the individual channels vol low and crank up the far right master that will help. I can get some pretty decent lower volume tone out my 50CL. VHT's are not for everyone. Even with gobs of gain they retain a clarity and dryness that I actually like. If you have a sloppy technique it will be heard as there is no hiding it under massive amounts of gain.
