I've had some cool pedals....Cusack Screamer, Bogner Red/Blue, a number of Wamplers, many modded SD1s and stock, OD1s, etc etc.
Of all that I've had, the Cusack and OD1X are my faves so far with a Marshall 2203 or Jubilee circuit. I like the OD1X in front of my C+ as well.
But the Savage Drive has now taken that spot...It is literally like taking a Fortin/Cameron/Gower mod and putting it in a pedal. It has as much gain as you need, and with the Bite and Tight dials you can go from smooth to hairy gain with a few twists.
Honestly, for an amp that has some gain already this pedal is just awesome. And I've only had about 20 minutes with it.
For 165, it's more than worth it IMO.

Hell yes! Glad to hear this!
I have one that was shipped out to me today. Can't wait!!!!
Rock it

Very cool. It has taken over my #1 spot as well. In front of my Artemis, it's just amazing. Such an even handed nice metal tone with a good blend of sizzle and low end (with my 7 strings). The Tight control is perfect at right about 10:00 with Bite around 1:00 to me. Everything is still clear and zero mud. Great pedal, I'm thinking of picking up another...

Mine is the green one...a couple years old, with the brightness toggle. Richard is one of the best to deal with ever! I just talked to him, and he has a head coming out...with the savage drive built in. He literally sent me picks of the prototype within a minute of me asking him. He has the best reply time ever...Jens from Kruse Mods is a close second.
The thing that's awesome about the savage drive too is for a higher output overdrive, it remains silent on noise. I promote his Richard's pedals cuz He is killer at customer service, build for the buck, and quality products that sound tight. I sometimes prefer my Horus overdrive for standard tunings cuz it has a little more give/squish and a vintage roundness that is awesome...But for C and 7 string stuff, the Savage is king.

Congrats! The savage is my favorite od pedal too so far! Your description is similar to my first impressions when I also had just gotten it. I currently have 13 od pedals and have owned and tried countless others (plenty of which were between $250-$350 new) and the savage is still my overall favorite but the cusack screamer v2 I just got is a close second for me and definitely a keeper too!

I've never tried the Horus, but my favorites when I want something more vintage flavored would be the Thorpy gunshot, maxon tbo-9, and mad professor sky blue. All among my favorite overdrive pedals! I'm still curious though about the new horizon precision drive and upcoming Friedman motor city drive

FYI: I just noticed on the Airis Effects website that the Savage is currently on sale for $149. Save 20 bucks!

Jens is quick, I've been thinking on sending my Jubilee in for his switchable gain stage mod. Or just getting an 800 for him...
That Savage Drive based amp sounds killer!

Smokin deal for this type of quality pedal! It really puts pedals that are 250 or more to shame!

OK, you convinced me. :D
Just ordered one, and yes they appear to be on sale for $149US.
I scored one of the re-issues Silver Jubilee's recently, so this looks like a timely addition to the boost pedal collection.
And so far, I'm really happy with the 2555X. Best thing Marshall has made in a loooooong time.

thanks for the heads up! I was looking for something to get my Plexi's and JCM800 type amps into heavier territory than what I get with the SD-1. looks like this might fit the bill!

I think you'll like it. SD1's are a classic pedal, and are great..but this Savage Drive is on another level.

Does this Savage pedal have the immediacy and attack of a Grind?

Brain theory got me to jump he said it can do what grind can do plus more with better feel

How are you guy setting up the Savage Drive when you use it into a already dirty amp ? Gain at zero or bumped up a bit ? How do the tight and bite pots affect the tone ?

you guys are right, this pedal is amazing. i got one about a month ago and it is prob my favorite. i'm liking the ghoul screamer a lot too for boosting high gain. i like to set the savage at; bite-11 o clock, drive-9 o clock, volume- 12 o clock, tight-10 o clock... this is boosting into a JJ or Orthos so far.... sounds amazing, just turn the amp gain down and use bite knob to taste, the savage can be bright imo
