I did the pickup swap and love the look of the guitar so much more now. I think the zebra pickups with the creme rings look great. I think the black and gold knobs tie everything to the gold hardware and fit the aesthetic better than those doofy orange knobs did.

It's got a JB and a Jazz in it, like it's younger sibling. I played it enough to balance the pickups and make sure everything works properly. The real test is the shootout with the rest of the bunch at practice tonight.

What do you think? How does it look?

To be completely honest? I like both. I don’t think one is relatively better than the other. Both look classy and professional. I’d be happy with either setup visually. I do like that the pickup rings are exactly the same color crème as the pickups which is a small but important visual queue.

I didn't hear as big of a difference between the covered and uncovered pickups as I thought I would. The both sound great. I'm definitely glad I switched from the 59 to the Jazz in those guitars. I love my neck pickup so much more now. I also get more twang and sparkle out of my tapped outer coils on clean parts.

I also went back and forth with my V loaded with DiMarzio Breeds. They are similar, but the Breed is a little hotter than the JB (well, a lot hotter). The Breeds had a bit more upper mids in the bridge and a hair more articulation. I like them both. I play sludge though, so I don't want it too tight and articulate.
