Close.

I have not had a Rat in the longest time but I got one when I had a L500XL in my Mockingbird. I wasn't going for Nuno but I've read/heard he uses it as a booster.
Yeah it's all there with the pedal mostly his pinched harmonics. He uses it into almost every amp he plays. The Rat pedal really enhances them, it's a very mid driven tone, I usually EQ the mids and treble back as well. He also uses greenbacks normally in his cabs to darken the mids some.
ProCo has reissued the whitefaced RAT with the original LM308 chip. I highly recommend it if you are going for Nuno's tone. It really shines into 2203 Marshall's but if you pull some gain out of your Friedman it should be spot on. Remember to roll your mids, treble and presence back some otherwise it will be harsh.

Isn't he also working with Lynch??
I tend not to believe these rumours because i don't want to get my hopes up for something that will probably never happen.
Same here...that album has some of my all time favorite tones. He plugged straight into a cranked up vintage brown Vibroverb for that one...no overdrives. I remember that well because I subsequently tried to chase that tone with a reissue Vibroverb.Chubtone":119izcs3 said:I really dig Nuno's playing and tone on all the Extreme stuff, but his tone on Hip Today from the 4th album just staggers me to this day.
I still have a Rat pedal that I bought somewhere around '83 IIRC. It's just a black box with white lettering and no LED (actually it has little paint left...a true natural relicharddriver":3d6x2o1k said:One of the constants in Nuno's tone regardless of what amp he is playing is his RAT overdrive pedal, the original one with the LM308 chip.

It should be the one. I think they used that chip up until they started producing the Rat II pedal. But I am not completely sure on the timeline, just that supposedly the LM308 chip has the mojo. It's very mid driven, percussive and the pinched harmonics pull off easily in Nuno fashion when you play to my ears it is spot on.
EL34's in the amp with greenbacks tame some of the harshness. And to all accounts the Randall NB100 has the RAT circuit built into the amp as the boost. So basically it was a 2203 with a clean channel with a RAT overdrive up front as a boost. I really like the tone on the Take Us Alive Tour in 2009, aggressive, percussive, and it cut through.

No, it was Vibroverb...the Vibrolux Reverb was a later blackface model with a very different sound.Badronald":345s7e3l said:rupe":345s7e3l said:Same here...that album has some of my all time favorite tones.
