this is the first mass shooting in NYC in something like 20 yrs

are you any safer is a small town that no one heard of. those towns make the news every other night
So there hasn’t been a drive by in any of the Burroughs where 3 or more bangers were shot ? That’s bullshit. You’re safer in NYC than you are St. Louis or Chicago. But that ain’t saying much.

They said the guy had well documented mental problems so he had to have lied on the background check when that (not an M4) AR was purchased.
We’ve had this conversation before, I still would not mind the background check system being linked to mental health records to prevent a mentally ill nut get his hands on a weapon. They will lie about that shit with no hesitation. Link the system so a flag comes up for a documented mentally ill person, the purchase goes to an extended review process that takes more time, a much more stringent review takes place, including looking at social media posts and juvenile records and if the guy lied on the form he goes straight to jail.
Would only stop them from getting legal weapons, but it would be a decent way to shut up all the morons who cry about “legally purchased weapons” when they have no idea wtf they are talking about..

Or just don’t sell guns to democrats 😂

Years ago, they used to lock crazy people away from guns and the public. It worked pretty well as evidenced by the low amount of shootings at that time.
Now they just give crazy people medication, which works until they lose their job or lose insurance.
Some states have "red flag" laws which i do not agree with at all.
The sentiment itself isn't bad, but the potential for misuse/abuse is too high imho.
Break up with your girlfriend? She calls the cops and your firearms get taken away.
Hell, we had a member here threaten to swat another member over mean internet words.

We need to admit that this problem is caused by mental illness and DO SOMETHING about it. But it's easier to just wrongly blame guns for the problem.

This tragedy could have easily been stopped had citizens been able to carry guns. Seems the MSM avoided the recent Walmart stabber being stopped by a good guy with a gun. It's even more impressive that the media ignored the story since the good guy with the gun was black.

Was the weapon obtained legally? Sorry i didn't see it

Yes

Agreed. I have no problem with background checks or even waiting a week for a gun. If you had something to hide and needed a gun ASAP - that should be a red flag. Not to confuse with the Red Flag laws in some states, which overstep their bounds. :dunno:

Waiting periods only apply to the law abiding.

Most gun owners have more than one gun. If they needed a gun to use right now, they already have it. Waiting periods and all the other bullshit laws that only apply to the law abiding are unconstitutional.

Red Flag Laws would work if they were used properly, but they won't be. Hundreds (thousands?) of innocents would be swept up in the misuse and abuse.
Agreed,

Hell, Democrats would create a database and just start reporting literally everyone who isn't on a soapbox preaching about gays for palenstine.
Soros might even pay $20 a head with USAID money for a purple haired loon to fill out the paperwork (on behalf of the children, of course)

I whole-heartedly agree. My application for a CCW in indiana was a huge disappointment: apply at local sheriff dept, get fingerprinted, fill out questionnaire and send it in. The reply from state police was vague and negative but my app was declined. They also stated i could contest their "ruling" if i showed up within a week in person in Indianapolis, 2 1/2 hours away. Mid winter with travel advisories and my only ride at the time was my old 2wd wood truck. I just wrote it off as a loss with no good explanation....but no law against carrying the glock in my truck: "I'm coming back from the range".
For a republican controlled state, Indiana is behind on it's gun laws.

To bad the prick offed himself.
Alvin Brag would have just let him go with an appearance ticket. Then waited around until he showed for the court date.
That way he could show up at the courthouse, kill a few more people before he offed himself.

Got your Tin Foil Hat ready?

And now it's moot. Since July 1 2022 Indiana has had Constitutional Carry making it no longer necessary to get a permission slip from your state government to exercise your inalienable rights to keep and bear arms.
