I got this bad case of GAS for a Strat.

Never had one, well one that didn't have a humbucker, but I'm wanting a normal strat, and a Fender Twin.

Dont know where this came from....maybe something I have to look into in the new year.

Kinda wanting to branch out from my balls to the wall Metal tones.... Would LOVE to get the Gilmore Strat.... may have to buy an MIM and mod it.

Just feels weird for me to GAS for something thats not really "Metal"

It's pretty "metal", all 3 guys in Iron Maiden play them. Glenn Tipton and KK Downing played them before their Hamer deals. Kirk Hamster played one occasionally before ESP.

How about these ass kickers - all play Strats or "Superstrats":
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Eddie Van Halen
Robin Trower
George Lynch
Joe Bonamossa
Dean Ween

Check out the Fender Highway One strats....they have the large 70's headstocks now and I have played a lot of them, great sounding and playing guitars.

True, but I've NEVER been a fan of single coils, ALWAYS avoided them like them plague.... Just seems strange for me.

I went through the same thing. All of a sudden in just had an itching for a nice Strat. Got the Am Deluxe with the V-neck and I absolutely love it

lol juggs you told me once strats were the worst guitars you ever played, and the gas is probably due to tiny similarity in gary holts guitar to a strat

Play as many Strat as you can. Then find pickups that work well for what you're doing. Once you have that you have a great guitar for sure! Happy hunting.

Your right, but it's the Fender neck profile, makes my wrist hurt..... I've got a neck off an old MIM strat that I modified, thats alot more comfortable, or I could buy a Strat and have Brent build me a neck or get a musikraft Charvel neck for it. :D

you'd sell the guitar at some point, hardly seems worth it unless it was f'ing mindblowing

Yeah, pick-ups are gonna be an issue, I've NEVER been a single coil guy, I've always been high output HB, or EMGs. So IF I go through with this, I'll be asking LOTS of questions. ;)

I'm betting SD Hotrails will be your answer.

aren't those basically HB in a single size?

well, they still have a singlecoil-ish tone just much more ballsy

Just throw in a Hum in the bridge, I have a HSS config on my Ameri deluxe strat and it works great

I couldn't agree more.

I love my strat.

Not looking for HB tones, I got those covered with 2 Juggernauts, Steinberger, Washburn Dime. Hence the GAS, looking for something completely different.

I LOVE STRATS!! it's my main instrument! and where I feel the most confortable!

I'd suggest big dipper pickups, my john mayer came with them ( well actually john mayer designed them) and they sound fantastic with high gain

let me pull out my hi-gain clip with my john mayer strat and my einstein (unboosted!)

go for it jugg!
