I LOVE STRATS!! it's my main instrument! and where I feel the most confortable!

I'd suggest big dipper pickups, my john mayer came with them ( well actually john mayer designed them) and they sound fantastic with high gain

let me pull out my hi-gain clip with my john mayer strat and my einstein (unboosted!)

go for it jugg!

Sounds killer, not really what I'm after though..... more bluesy, floyd-ish type tones.

I got this bad case of GAS for a Strat.

Never had one, well one that didn't have a humbucker, but I'm wanting a normal strat, and a Fender Twin.

Dont know where this came from....maybe something I have to look into in the new year.

Kinda wanting to branch out from my balls to the wall Metal tones.... Would LOVE to get the Gilmore Strat.... may have to buy an MIM and mod it.

Just feels weird for me to GAS for something thats not really "Metal"

Ok. Lie down, place a cold compress on your head. It's obvious that you are fevered and delusional. Take two Vicodin, drink 6 Guinness', sleep well and call me in the morning.

If I were you I'd also look at Warmoth. Get a neck with the Wizard profile if you are wanting something smaller. The Wizard profile is the profile used by Ibanez, and it is a great profile. I have it on one of my guitars. The Standard thin is also a great profile too. I have on a couple of other guitars I have.

As far as pickups, I'm a big EMG fan too. I'd recommend getting a set of S, SA, or SLVs. S if you want a vintagey tone. SA if you want a bit hotter and deeper tone. SLV if you want a hot tone. I have a lot of HSS guitars and I pair up the SA in the middle of them and the SLV in the neck.

If you do a SSS EMG pickup set, be sure to get the SPC (Strat Presence knob). It helps beef up the pickup when rolled on to have more "humbucker-like" characteristics. I have that in one of my strats, as well as a the David Gilmour setup in another strat of mine. I couldn't be happier!!! I've tried all sorts of pickups in my strats I have, and my favorite are Rio Grande and EMG. Rio Grande "Dual Calibrated" set was my favorite for passive pickups, and the EMG David Gilmour setup was my favorite for active.

Hope that helps.

Awesome, thanks....

Now that I think about it, I have everything I need but the Body, pickguard, and pick-ups. I got a killer neck, and all the hardware....

feel good about it, grow up with it, play the fuck out of it ( yes with single coils), and your individuality will gleam. I never understood why people would take a great stratocaster and have the intentions of getting a strat sound, then they take it and put humbucker in it. EVH is different because he intented integrated a gibson sound with the strat look/feel. I recently saw somebody put a hot rails duncan in a E.J. strat, on both neck and bridge...that just boggle my mind, fuckin ruin a perfectly good strat with all the right components..might as well just settle for a guitar thats built for humbuckers.

Just grab a good swamp ash body from warmoth, and finish it with oil!!! It would be that expensive, and they sound friggin awesome!

It's not a "pure" Strat to put a bucker in, but one of the great things about a Strat design is that it is totally customize-able. You can get a fully tricked out Strat, to all your specs, top of the line materials (from Warmoth or Musikraft) for half of what Jackson Custom Shop, Schecter Custom Shop or Dean Custom Shop (makers of humbucker guitars) would charge.

of course. I own a warmoth strat - style guitar that i built in 1990 specifically for humbucking, cause that was the sound i was going after since I already owned original strats. The original post was that he was looking to get a REAL strat with gilmore tones...aint gonna happen with a frankenstein strat style or putting little humbuckers in a normal stratocaster. Although you can build a strat from warmoth, USA guitars, Musicraft, Callaham, to resemble a true stratocaster...that's a good method too, as long as you know exactly what your buying from the design body/neck( contours/shape) to the electronics and hardware. If your not an expert or know what you are doing, you are rolling the dice vs. buying a Fender off the shelf.

I have a 2006 American made Standard hardtail in black with a maple board. This thing is perfect, stays in tune, and can go from rock to country to jazz etc with just pickup selection. I never even had to change the factory setup. I own 16 guitars and IMHO it is my best all around guitar and a go to when I just want to play and not have to think about issues with a model or tone etc. The strat will do it all but let it be a strat and don't try to make it into Something Leo wasn't after. ONCE YOU GET IT GOING YOU WON'T LOOK BACK.

more Strat and/or Superstrat users, who kick ass in a big way:

Doug Aldrich
Jake E Lee
Warren DiMartini
Mick Mars
Wolf Hoffman (It's true. He was all over the Flying V, but rocked a Strat every once in a while)
Fast Eddie Clarke
Phil Collen
He Who Cannot Be Named
Richie Blackmore

Had an IM strat...should never have sold it...even though I don't get on with the necks.

no mention of dave murray? SHAME ON YOU! :D

If you're gonna' get a strat..........don't ruin it with a humbucker or rail single

I've had 2 American Deluxe HSS strats. Now I have the Robert Cray American hardtail. The stock pickups rule for blues and cleans. I played around with some Dimarzio singles and a Duncan rail and came back to stock. Its meant to sound like it does

all 3 guys in Iron Maiden play them. Glenn Tipton and KK Downing played them before their Hamer deals. Kirk Hamster played one occasionally before ESP.

How about these ass kickers - all play Strats or "Superstrats":
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Eddie Van Halen
Robin Trower
George Lynch
Joe Bonamossa
Dean Ween
