My main Strat is a 69 that I bought in 78. I have had a EMG David Gilmour in it for years. If you guys go back and see what Leo Fender said about his guitars and all guitars - Do what ever you want to them to make them work for you. After all they were screwing around with everything to make it better for the people who were playing. He did not like people who bought guitars for a collection. He made them to be played. What works for you.......

get yourself a "real" silver or black face twin. you will love it. even the old 4x10 bassman combos are incredible. any of those 50's-70's fenders are a win

feel good about it, grow up with it, play the fuck out of it ( yes with single coils), and your individuality will gleam. I never understood why people would take a great stratocaster and have the intentions of getting a strat sound, then they take it and put humbucker in it. EVH is different because he intented integrated a gibson sound with the strat look/feel. I recently saw somebody put a hot rails duncan in a E.J. strat, on both neck and bridge...that just boggle my mind, fuckin ruin a perfectly good strat with all the right components..might as well just settle for a guitar thats built for humbuckers.

I ruined one of my EJs with a humbucker in the bridge, but I guess I was wrong for thinking since it was my guitar I could do what I needed for my musical expression. :D In my case, I love the neck and middle pickup tones, but need to be able to get aggresive HB tones too, so I did that with the guitar. It's best of both worlds for me, and certainly not 'ruined' in my opinion unless you have an extremely limited view of what works.

If you're gonna' get a strat..........don't ruin it with a humbucker or rail single

I've had 2 American Deluxe HSS strats. Now I have the Robert Cray American hardtail. The stock pickups rule for blues and cleans. I played around with some Dimarzio singles and a Duncan rail and came back to stock. Its meant to sound like it does
I totally agree, I have 3 complete pickguard assy's for my strat, and I always came back to stock, exept for a cool rail in the bridge. I cannot come to terms with the stock bridge pup. The cool rail still sounds like a SC, but it has some balls, and is quieter :D

not a limited view at all Pete, just a preference and understand exactly why folks want to modify them in that sense ( versatility) Trust me, i went through the period of doing the same with my vinatge strats, but I'm sort of a purist and my respect has grown for the instrument ( Fender Stratocaster ) that I'd rather leave them cosemetically as they were they were first engineered. Three singles, stock trem look. classic and cool. then again, i do mod several of my older ones with huge 6000 fretwire and one of them is even scalloped, prior to the YJM's coming out. The EJ strat is such a great instrument end to end stock, its just my snobby strat opinion from owning several through the years that I could never do that if i owned one, ..which im thinking of buying actually. Once again, the whole topic was the guy ( juggarnaut) wanted to but a normal strat with singles, so thats really the main theme from my initail post.

Carry on..

more Strat and/or Superstrat users, who kick ass in a big way:

Doug Aldrich
Jake E Lee
Warren DiMartini
Mick Mars
Wolf Hoffman (It's true. He was all over the Flying V, but rocked a Strat every once in a while)
Fast Eddie Clarke
Phil Collen
He Who Cannot Be Named
Richie Blackmore

Can I add John Norum to that list? Think he threw some DiMarzio SDS-1's in his and it fairly rocks :D
