I love mastodon, and this amp sounds damn good, but sounds a bit too compressed for me. Could be settings, but WAY more gain than I'd use. I guess just seems like the rawness in their tone in the beginning is kinda loss now

I don't care for this clip, but I've played the amp with its matching cab and it's amazing! I played it with a Suhr SSV in the bridge and Gibson Burstbucker in the neck. I think much of the compression is coming from the pickups used in this clip. Personally I don't think the JJ does this tone. I'm sure you could dial all of the Friedman 100 amps to sound similar, but I'm of the opinion that they all have a very different character. The Steve Stevens is my personal favorite.
